I think he got arrested and just spent his first night in prison.

 By the look on his face, he just learned what it means to drop the soap in the prison showers.

This may sound racist and/or sexist, but wouldn't ethnicity and gender have a role to play?  Cultural programming has to be a factor in interpreting behavior and expression.

...I think these tests tell us more about how we can detect lies and phonies.  A much better skill to have, in my opinion.

Do mirroring the expressions for about 10-20 seconds on yourself exactly, and focus on how it makes you feel, then that is your answer. it works really well. give it a go

 No. There was this tv series, Lie to me... The main character was the Ekman dude that actually came up with the idea of microexpressions and is an expert on facial reading. One of the general ideas I got was that those expressions are universal, people from all over the world make them when they feel a particular emotion. The real Ekman spent many years studying face expressions among some isolated tribes, and that's how he came to that conclusion.

I got 6% on the first test and 15/20 on the second. Knowing the context the the expression were made in would help a lot with these tests.

"Cultural programming has to be a factor in interpreting behavior and expression."

Only in how strong the display of it is supposedly, and "expressions" that are more like rehearsed gestures, like winking.

That was surprise, Tick, not fear. It was dramatically exaggerated, but when a person is surprised, a common characteristic to look for is the raising of the eyebrows, and the widening of the eyes. Even if the person is typically deadpan in the face, they will do one or both of the two mentioned; if only slight.

Okay, so the first link kept hitting amazon video errors, so I gave up on trying to get that one to work.

The second one meanwhile... what the hell, those expressions were way over-exaggerated. They were clearly given instructions for how to appear instead of made to genuinely feel those things.

19/20. Only one I got wrong was Contempt.

Answer Key(Purposely Out of Order):

Embarrassment 1/2

How can you tell the difference between surprise and fear?

They both look the same to me.
