The only thing I truly value is my life. Everything else just 'exists'.

Where do you find your motivation?

Hey, thanks for the reply gypsy.

Well there's nothing wrong with not having many beliefs. In fact, one could say it's a virtue if it makes you capable of compromising. For me, though, it's not about putting rules on myself, I just have those values. It's not about choosing. And I know exactly what you mean! If you block off other values then you can never find out if the grass is greener on the other side, so to speak.

Why do you think most people's inner world and values are illogical?

I was having similar problems before.

My narcissism takes an intresting role in my life and in my decision making process.  I think so highly of myself that I hold myself to very high expectations. I refuse to do belittling behavior such as stealing, lying or quitting. This factor has pushed me far in my life and I've made successs for myself typically just because I believe I deserve it.

It's difficult to explain, and I'm a bit too tired tonight to consider it properly, so perhaps I'll come back to it.

I guess it just amazes me the sheer fucking randomness of how someone can have such strong moral values about some things and not about others, and the excuses they come out with to justify this.

For instance, at the weekend I was having a drink with a friend, who was filling me in on the latest episode of her soap-operaesque love life (she is sleeping with her best friend's ex, even though the friend is still in love with him and hoping they will get back together). The conversation turned to work, and I mentioned how a business associate of mine has started taking advantage of a little known piece of legislation, which involves registering the names of our competitors so they can't open any new premises in the same name. She was absolutely horrified, and basically accused me of being an untrustworthy person for even knowing about it! But try to point out the comparison, and she will come up with excuses based on the difficulties of emotions and complications of personal relationships etc. That's not logic.

Those can get rather inventive if they have trouble with outright denial.
