Regardless whether the end goal for humanity is to progress or for people to be happy, I think having a top 1% making so much more than the rest is a problem. Social inequalities on that scale are almost always a bad thing.

No, I don't believe life has intrinsic value. However, I believe the best approach is to act as though it does. It's more enjoyable that way.
