Sociopaths, addiction and crime.

Poor impulse control and a criminal past are common sociopathic traits ( I won't see any references, look it up ).

1.How many of you here could be considered addicts?

2.Who committed a criminal act and was never caught (and I'm not asking for details because I'm not gonna give any concerning my own answers).

For me:

1. Yes (big time).

2. Yes (but I ain't giving any details and anyway statute of limitations would apply).

I find myself completely void of addiction personally. I hate the idea of becoming reliant on something external. And for the crime, only petty thievery but I dont even think that one counts as a crime

1. Caffeine, but that doesn't count, does it?

2. One doesn't confess that one has committed crimes on the internet, with the NSA listening. That doesn't mean that I have, I'm just saying, it'd be dumb to say yeah.

I don't have to steal to get what I want. If desperate enough, all I have to do is "look pretty", though I set myself to a higher standard than that.

1. Coffee is technically a drug. Just not a hard drug.

2. 3 words:statute of limitations. Not only is the NSA listening as you said but this is a public forum and anonymity on the 'net is an illusion.

That said you're right I can't ask that question to others and expect an answer but I was curious about the correlation between being a sociopath & having a certain propensity to break the law. In fact my questions are all about sociopaths' lack of self-control.

I will say that my selfcontrol is something I'm working on. I like being able to decide to do things and accomplish them on a whim, except when that leads to problems. Control and balance is key.

1. Yes, I have a drug addiction. Well, I don't know if it's really an addiction as such. My body keeps telling me I need it, but my body doesn't rule my mind. I can go without it.

2. Yes, I have committed many crimes, some of them repeatedly, and never been caught.

  • Driving without a license (cars and motorcycles)
  • Riding a motorcycle while high
  • Driving/riding over the speed limit
  • Animal abuse
  • Property damage
  • Vandalism
  • Theft
  • Perjury
  • Forgery
  • Fraud
  • Conspiracy to commit murder
  • Attempted Murder

That's the majority of my crimes anyway.

The police aren't going to come knocking your door down just because you admit to a few crimes.

Without the details, or anything that may lead to possible evidence, they're not likely to investigate.

People lie all the time online. Do you think the police have the manpower and resources to investigate everyone online who admits to a crime?

Hell, I've even had the cops checking me out online in the past and they didn't do jack shit. Mind you, that was simply over a case of harassment and threats. Nothing major.

You also don't happen to live in the United States, where they have an entire data center or two dedicated to just that. Storing and combing through data to look for key words to arrest people for crimes online.

It happened to me in real life, they were looking for stolen goods and didn't find anything. Mind you not because I was bragging on the 'net but because the stupid bitch of my partner in crime wrote everything down in her diary (yeah we were minors) and her mom stumbled upon it and called the cops. My friend got a suspended sentence for credit card fraud among other things.

Another close call was I was using fake prescriptions to get sleeping pills and I got summoned by the cops. The thing is they knew I had been getting an inordinate amount of sleeping pills from various pharmacies but they didn't have any of the fake prescriptions because I never left a copy of those to any pharmacy I was scamming. So nothing happened.

So there: nothing can be done against me in those 2 cases because there's no evidence whatsoever and the first one is too old.
