Great quote. I think you're bang-on concerning tolerance being a mild form of hatred, lol.
But love is far from "effortless"- especially for people like us. If you think of it as only a feeling, you may never experience it fully.
An emotional deficit does not have to be a handicap, if you accept your limitations, and disregard the standard social expectations associated with it, by adjusting your definition of "love" to encompass what you can experience, as opposed to what you can't. When "love" becomes a practical choice and a guiding philosophy, as opposed to a sustained emotional state, it changes everything.
EDIT: I should have said someone "for someone like me." For you, love may well be effortless; what do I know? For me, it is a daily choice... one I'm not very good at, much of the time, I admit. :p
