That's true, but why force someone to sign up and log in who may still just sit there observing anyway and not participate. 

Better off just letting them observe as anons.

I think you should be able to see the chat as an anon. Why force the log in? To have more fucking control on us? Every time we log in you gather information about us.

 it's not about information. please don't accuse me like that becsaue it isn't my intent. it's about building a community to fascilitate relationships between users. this is a step in that direction. anyone who uses the chat now knows exactly who can and cannot see it.

many users tend to log off to avoid being shown online. some do this because they are shy, and others do it becsaue they don't want all those anons staring at them.

this way, if you are an anon, you cannot see who is online nor the chat.

Doesn't matter what people expect to find here, but what they really find. Anons should see the chat, you have put work and thought into it, why wouldn't it be seen. If people want to participate, then alright they have to log in.

If they're not going to post, they may as well observe anonymously.

I'd like my privacy, and to read chat without being signed in. We're adults, not rats you have to goad out of the sewer. We like to make our own choice when we want to sign in and when not. What if I leave the chat open, and I get signed off automatically. I get disconnected from the chat?

ok i understand your concern. you want to be able to spy on chatters without them knowing you are there. 

Spy? Why not just read in peace, it's a public chat, I have the right to read it, especially if I get mentioned as many times as people tell me. And if I see something interesting, I log in and join anyway.

If a random person googles sociopath and ends up on this site, how much time do you think they'll spend here if there's nothing to grab their attention? An active chat they can read at the top of the site would definitely grab their attention Luna, they'll spend more time to see what's going on and stuff.
