Alright Mr./Ms. passive-aggressive...
As a classically trained blah blah blah brag brag brag pretending not to be pretentious while being pretentious and blah blah blah, my issue is mostly with the obviousness and predictability. People think they are being badass when they are just being normal. Of course Thrill Kill listens to Disturbed. My 10 year old nephews' favorite band is Disturbed for god's sake.
My issue is with boring people, and people who blindly put themselves into prefab stereotypes whilst thinking they are doing the opposite. Yeah, metal and blood and gore and "darkness". Duh. And this thread is supposed to be about unusual music? I don't think so.
Also, I already posted that Shriekback one (good one, by the way).

lol. This is a facepalm moment.
According to your logic, if one 10 year old likes Disturbed, that means Disturbed is mostly liked by 10 year olds. Of course, it doesn't matter that a lot of adults like that music too. That one 10 year old covers the entire demographic.
Do you guys even read what you're typing or do you just type away blindly and hope it makes sense?
I take it you missed the sarcasm in my comment.
I think most people take music too seriously. I don't see why it matters if the music someone listens to is unique or not. I mean, seriously, who cares if Jimmy down the road likes Justin Beiber and Jill next door prefers classical. Each to their own.
As for me.. my musical tastes vary from metal, to electronica, to old school rock n roll and classical. The funny thing is though, I'm probably the only one here can, and often does, go for weeks on end sometimes without listening to any of it.
Music irritates me if I listen to it for longer than an hour or so.

I do find that most metalheads are indeed about 10 years old, mentally speaking. I also find quite often that their choice in genre is a passive-aggressive one, and in reality they are usually meek kitten lovers. Generally, the least "badass" of stereotypes in reality (which is fine, badasses are waaaay overrated), but feel the need to seem badass, or only know how to express their angst vicariously through their choice in music. Not all of them are like this of course, but in my experience (which is a lot), it is generally true. Plus there is a whole world of much more interesting metal out there...

Note the thread title.

Not really a whole lot of variance there really, in the scheme of things and the world. Which is fine, but don't pretend to be all musically worldly.

Wrong. Again, wanting to be unique. I find silence to be preferable a large portion of the time.
"Which is fine, but don't pretend to be all musically worldly."
Why would I want to... Music doesn't even interest me that much most of the time. I'll leave all the music bragging to the naive idiots who think their taste in music matters more than everyone else's.

Who said anything about wanting to be unique?
Enjoying silence doesn't make someone 'unique', lol.
