 Children are not MEANT to be ANYTHING.

 If that were true, no mother would care enough to protect her children. Yet, we know that's not the case in the majority of circumstances. Most mothers would do just about anything to protect their children.

 Yeah, in the (key word) MAJORITY of cases. Proves nothing against my point.

So, according to you, children aren't meant to mean anything because a few mothers out there aren't protective of them?

You don't think the majority is more likely to be true than the minority?

 There is no absolute truth, friend. Things are as they are. Just because the majority does things one way does not make it objective "truth" of reality.

I agree, but we are talking about children here.

How successful do you think the human race would be if children didn't mean anything?

I personally don't like kids and I don't like the responsibilities of being a parent, but I'm not likely to dump my daughter on the side of the road anytime soon. Why? Because she's a part of me. She's an extension of myself and I value that.

 The success of the human race is not the debate. Humans would continue to exist, that is for certain.

If children really don't mean anything, then why bother protecting them? Why not just dump them in a rubbish bin after birth?

 I think you mininterpreted. Children are not meant to be anything because there is no universal law saying they should. It is not my place to say how they are or are not treated. For an IDEAL SOCIETY of course, they should be raised and treated very well as to promote the future generations, but no universal law determines how they SHOULD or should NOT be treated/cared for/regarded.

There's also no universal law saying they shouldn't. Everyone has their own idea on whether or not children mean anything. So, how about we just agree to disagree.
