Let's talk some psychology!

Posts: 2876

Hi everyone,

So I want to write a thesis that basicly claims that life is only considered boring for those who look at life from the wrong perspective. My thesis claims that we must be proactive in making our life as interesting and fun as possible.

So I think it's really important that we know what exactly "interesting" is.

It seems to me that the human being enjoys finding order out of randomness. We observe the endless streaming data we recieve from our 5 senses, and try to peice it all together into what is the framework of our universe and our place within.

I think, unfortunately, some humans are dumber than others. They find out likely early in life that they don't have the intelligence to achieve success in an intellectual hobby and instead pick another path. I think this is somtimes an accurate decision, but others, I think it's a loss of talent and more importantly, I think it leads to depression.

I think that if we do come to the conclusion that the human mind does gain happiness as a result of creating order out of chaos (thinking) than it goes without saying that Humans should pursue intellectual interests for fun.

Anyway, so what do you guys think "interests" are?

Interesting is something that stimulates the mind. It keeps you interested.

What makes an intellectual hobby any better than a non-intellectual one? Do you think intellectual persuits can't be depressing? I'd argue they can be more depressing.

 Again you sound like a disembodied brain... Happiness= thinking is a wrong conclusion. Sensations and feelings bring us happiness too. Interests are stuff that stimulates us in various possible ways, mentally, physically, emotionally. It's what we find interesting, as opposed to boring like Buttered Toast's posts, for example.

"Inter" as in "between or among something" and "Est" as in "Eastern Standard Time"

To answer your question Coke baby, I think interests are places such as George Town.

 Dear bratsky,

If your "thesis" , is going to be a judgemental view on the world as you see it, then pleae, do continue.

Personally I think its difficult for you to write an unbiased thesis , due to your obvious superiority complex. (Dont mistake me here, I dont care that you are, Im just saying).

I do think however, that if you dont learn to quell the desire to point out peoples flaws to them , you will have difficulty in maintaining strong business ties, and customer relations.

Interest = perception

Perception= interest.

You seem to have a lot of difficulty placing yourself in others shoes to even "appear" to be somewhat empathetic (again no biggy really to me ), but you will have to learn to decieve a bit better if you are going to be successful.

People dont want honesty all the time Luna, despite what they say. They want to be made to feel good, about themselves and their shortcomings...

Your opinion of how dumb people are for being people, and how you're above them for being more driven and more intelligent seems to reflect that idea at least.

No offense, I see myself as better than a lot of people too.

There's some similarity between you and Susan. You're nearly manic with this introspection when you smoke pot.
The superiority complex comes with it. It's not always what you say, by the way, but how you say it.
