So... you're saying we should make it down on request for any photo that isn't the exact photos they've posted themselves because maybe it could link to something?
Any photo we can reasonable determine to be of them, yes. There are obviously more corner cases but those can probably be left out.
So, yes, any photo of them if it's not the one they posted themselves, is what you are proposing?
Might as well just make the rule "No doxing" at that point.
Basically, yes. As long as the request is reasonable (such as not spamming pics that are nearly identical etc.).
How is that the same as a "no doxing" rule?
We'd be subdividing the dox rules into "only the exact, specific photo they've themselves posted here".
It's basically "No doxing", as even if I could prove that typical reverse searches find nothing you'd still have it go down.
If your overall point is that it's really easy not to have reverse-searchable photos of you on the web then I disagree.
On what basis?
I have tried it myself.
I have too, and it tends to lead to mostly public forums, image boards, and public social media profiles.
Whether other sites have ToS that protect them or not doesn't really matter though, does it? Either we care about the dox risk or we don't.
I went on about that in this topic already.
I can't find it.
Not sure how you can't, this topic's only four pages.
We're not responsible for what they do to themselves, only the escalations from that from others that are posted physically on this board. We're meant to be a last resort, not their parents.
So my whole argument is a moot point as long as I am safe? Lol.
Mostly saying your face can't be posted on here already because you aren't going around posting your face. Even Med was safe from this for an abnormally long time by just sending it to people in PMs.
It's just like the PalePeach case: She's shown her body but not her face, so her face is off limits.
Med shared a pic of her face in public chat quite early on, I believe.
Chat from what I last saw was handled as "so fast that it's unpolice-able*". People wanted doxes in chat to be able to be taken down but it largely became impossible to police it and the text went away if it was more than fifty lines past or whatever her limits for it were.
Beyond that if there's ways to delete stuff from these chat records, they should be easy enough to search up with this website's chat search.
I just think the policy makes much less sense that way since the idea is to give members a basic protection against doxing. In Peach's case someone could find a picture somewhere of just her back that leads to a dox, either through reverse-searching or because there's additional info in the pic.
Peach posted herself here, so how is that on us? She's also aware of how identifying a face is, hence why she has chosen to not post it here as said protection. If you're posting yourself here, it's at your own risk.
If someone used that info to find out her address somehow, and that was posted on here, it'd be down on request from that specific data being plastered on here, but if someone in their own time can use a photo to find someone's breadcrumbs using services outside of this website, we aren't really a factor here.
