Our Forum Leaders as World of Warcraft Characters

Arthas: A gradual form of the "Fallen Paladin" archetype, he started off assuming himself a force of good, but slowly milled into one of our "world's" greatest evils as he began to purge people who might have been "infected" (Undead in this case being "Jim"). Went on a crazy crusade that once had the backing of his people, but as he continues down the path towards evil through desperate action he ends up accepting this fate overtime as his former ideals faded. Ultimately died and had his sword "Frostmourne" (her forum) taken from him.

Sylvannas: Began as a quirky leader that enabled questionable behaviors behind the scenes that always led to it's own growth (itself more so than The Horde, but all grew from it). Ultimately wants to turn foes and allies "Undead" (troll-friendly) for their own safety and for overall advantages, but this leaves a bad taste in the mouths of the living. She attempted to wield Frostmourne but saw it shattered instead, stole much of Arthas' undead army, and was instrumental in the burning down of her former home.

Garrosh: Insists The Horde be ruled by force, that Orcs are to be seen as the higher caste, and will kill or banish any who aren't on board. While not a fan of many other leaders, even those working alongside him, he accepts their presence until he no longer has to. Garrosh eventually goes nuts when he finds a seat of power nested in negative feelings and insanity, but prior to that he was already alienating people around him who themselves weren't fellow Orcs. Dislikes "The Undead" principally, and will step in to squash their numbers when he feels too threatened by it.

Thrall: In spite of being an orc with many repressed feelings, having come up as a slave orc he otherwise tries to do "what is right" and "what is fair" for the entire group as he can see it, but this can end up with bad choices made through being too naturally pacifistic (he can fight, really well, but he's not into it like normal orcs). While argued to be weaker when compared to the average for their ferocity, it can come out in other ways (in Thrall's case, Elemental Magic, a force that came from being diplomatic with the elements themselves). Overcoming his own racial handicaps is largely what had Thrall respected, but in the end he was too willing to give his leadership away to Garrosh for some peace of mind of his own much to the detriment of others. After Garrosh was in power he was a part of both the world restoration effort and the means of combating any new threat (including Garrosh down the line), and otherwise serves as an ex-leader of sorts with a leaning on Diplomacy and Compromise that offers advice.

Ragnaros: Armed with the catchphrase "BY FIRE BE PURGED", Ragnaros rules over his dominion with an iron-forged fist (more like a mace). All who enter his domain uninvited are in for a fight, and he's otherwise largely disconnected from the more social side of things in favor of fighting his own personal war. He'll disappear and reappear from time to time largely unchanged, unlike the rest of The World of Warcraft itself.

Milhouse Manastorm: Just check his entry.

Ysera: Known as "The Dreamer", she tends to both "The Emerald Dream", a dreamworld of her own creation, and the waking world as a dragon touched by the aspect of nature. She largely treats the two worlds as connected, one and the same, and the other druids in her charge tend to follow a similar path. She's not entirely tethered into reality as we know it, but instead maintaining two consistent understandings of her two realities respectively while being able to pull things from one into the other. She can be corrupted from "Dream" into "Nightmare" however from this connection, and she always seems a little lost to her environment.

I've been wanting to do a "Compare Forum Members To Media" sort of topic, but this just kinda sprung into my head out of nowhere. I'm not even that big of a Warcraft player.

Edit: Fixed a lore error.

I like comparing things to media. Art imitates life and life imitates art.

They also all in their own ways are "wrong" and "flawed", something I've enjoyed about Warcraft a lot. A lot of the game's more about how their traits and elements interact with one another.

I played mostly Horde if you can't tell from my selection.

Jaina's actually... kind of a worse person. Sure she lost her home but even her own people got horrified with what it turned her into.

I never played WoW, but I played a lot of Warcraft.
Out of the lore I like Jaina the most atm. Tho I can't say I like anyone very much. They are all too dramatic.

If she didn't come to her senses eventually, I wouldn't have liked her.
I liked Sylvanas, but she is far too obsessed with her immortality now, seems weak to me.
I liked Arthas, but I was an edgy early-teen back when I liked him.

If we use Jainas arc, SC are the orcs and the undead are the pedos.

Cheery bye!

I've been trying to apply Warcraft characters to the current "Villain" caste.

So far the only quick obvious answer's been the one for Jim.

It makes them into caricatures of themselves, which makes it easier to compare them to other sources.

Warcraft writers love causality, but they're far from subtle.

I liked Sylvanas, but she is far too obsessed with her immortality now, seems weak to me.

She's motherly, but seems to see life as death and death as life... which has twisted her values a bit. Her monologues can get a little strange sometimes during questlines post-Arthas, and she was fine with some questionable decisions like "Chemical Warfare" if it served to give her more "Undead", damaging the landscape in the process as it mutates into something unrecognizable (Hillsbrad Foothills)

Her attempting to cultivate an "Undead Civilization" however also came with the side effects of her followers having reduced morality and otherwise understanding madlad troll strats enough to potentially consider them for themselves from "no longer being alive" changing their values a bit. Characters like Putress are a firm example of that potential for backfiring.

I liked Arthas, but I was an edgy early-teen back when I liked him.

He's a fun storyline, a nice take on the Fallen Paladin model. Most of those usually just follow The Joker's "All it takes is one bad day" model, but he actually underwent the transformation gradually.

Warcraft is definitely a story of change, but again I love how their morality set isn't as black and white as "Light vs Dark", but rather from a larger spectrum that can make concepts like "The Void" seem alien.

N'Zoth: Those who talk to it for too long inevitably change in one way or another. It whispers, and following said whispers come ripples that were once seen as unlike themselves. No matter how people respond to the whispers, N'Zoth wins.

Grand Apothocary Putress: Insisting onto others of his own greatness, speaking often of his own "great work", seeing others largely as disposable in an enjoyable way, Putress was a plague boiler, a specialist in the death and decay that results through disease and filth. Ultimately betrays everyone in some way, shape, or form, but doesn't seem too distracted by this in pursuit of his own greater aims. When destiny was in his hands, he chose to kill people from all sides, Alliance, Horde, and Scourge, while laughing evilly as he returns to his new Master of the Moment. Ends up dying for what he believes in: His life's work.

Potential names left:
Current: Dexter
Past: Sinister, Goober, FireMeetsIce
