I could never join a cult, because to join one would be to presume that there is something greater than myself, which there's not. But what I could do is make one that caters to my ideas without throwing them out the window on a principle basis. Enter: Spiritual Egoism. So basically, my cult functions to do the opposite of what all these other cults are trying to do. Ditch the cosmic mumbo jumbo bullshit, strip all the magical fluff from your beliefs, and take some time to serve the present moment. In my cult, the present is the only thing that exists and you should focus on that, not some future that may or may not be out there. But to better the present, you need to listen to me. I don't mean obey my every command, I mean take my ideas into consideration. For example- some people will do something like, spend hours of a day trying to save a dying bird or something that she found on the sidewalk, because in her idea it will somehow impact the future in some kind of karma system. I do not believe that this will do anything but delay whatever task we had at the moment of finding said dying bird. Or, Delora refusing to use roach motels because she finds them morally wrong and throwing them all out specifically BECAUSE they are effective. Or, taking hours out of our day (see above) to save a crane with a broken leg or a baby possum when we need to be catching the bus to get home. I do not see any productivity for me in these things, and I reject the notion of inventing an existential reasoning for them.
Basically, I believe there is nothing wrong in acting in one's interest as long as you are not blocking another person to do the same. I, however, reject delusions of grandeur. You should accept the reality of who you are. I am not opposed to focusing on the good rather than the bad, and seeking to hone those traits in yourself and emphasize them to others. It's not fake, it's human nature. If everyone went around showing off their dark shit I guarantee you every one of us would look like a jackass. But don't be a snake or manipulate others into some con be it romantic or economic- that's not keeping dark shit to yourself, that's being a scumbag. Live and let be. The best thing about my cult is that you don't even have to worship me, actually, you should worship yourself and let me worship me and don't let others tell you not to worship yourself but in this self praise do not try to force others to participate in this praise.
And this, is the essence of my cult.
