You need to try a proper Cheese Steak Hoagie, the ingredients chopped and mixed on a flat top stove set to sizzle at a low temp so that all the oils and greases mix into one love.

Mushrooms, swiss cheese, lightly salted fresh chopped steak, green peppers, fresh cut onions dripping in it's natural essence, a little garlic, all in a sourdough hoagie roll used like a glove to pick up the melted wonder-drug, searing the bread tips with the food oils in a way that crisps it.

^^^ He gets it. ^^^

Their cheese steaks sandwiches are overrated

They've gone downhill relatively over the past decade.

Otherwise, you're wrong.

All it's ever been is a hot, wet ball of bread with some cheese and meat.

Its vastly overrated

Did you even give it time in the foil? That's essential. I otherwise have no idea how that happened to you. Maybe the one you went to hires shitty employees, as mine has a few staff who've been there since I was a kid.

I dare you to present a superior sandwich.

You'd call the supreme king of sandwiches that is integrally based around proper timing, ingredient mixture, and flat top oven chopping techniques mastered over a period of decades, inferior to this crap

Methinks your taste buds betray you. The only explanation is that your senses must lack the subtleties needed to discern superior sizzle apart from some common grub nestled into a sad baguette.

You looked for the most unflattering picture huh, I mean I can do that too

That's some thick soggy looking bread versus

This crisp and delicious sandwich.

I didn't look for it, that's just the one on Wikipedia (yours looks grosser anyways tbh, I mean look at it).

You however have found a fairly exceptional failure. I'd have taken it back and asked lots of questions. I've had some great hoagies in other places too, but that one's where I've eaten the most and it's never looked that bad.

Edit: Looking at it more closely, some of it's the photo itself kinda graying it. The ones hiding in the back don't look so bad, but the one in front was kinda "woah what is that?" from the red pepper assortment. Remove those and it's really not so bad looking.

Squishy vs crispy? Squishy will always be superior, and their bread has enough sustain to take the grease without becoming mush while absorbent enough to join the rest of the meal.

I mean you like what you like, I don't think their sandwiches are all that great tho I suppose that could just be because of the mushy-ness of the bread, the low quality cheese used or the overall presentation of it from that particular restaurant. I mean, you're wrong but you have the right to be wrong and I can't change that.

I did some clarity edits above.

Crispy over Squishy though? I still don't get it.

Why would you want a squishy wet sandwich if it isnt a torta ahogada?
