My parents are trying to convince me

To go to shock adversion therapy to turn me straight

I don't want that. My father found out Lauren is my girlfriend, and I don't know what to do.

They are so pushy about it. But I am being told if I do it my dad will trust me enough to teach me how to drive if I do it and I don't have anyone to teach me.

He also told me he'll finally help me with college matters

But that I can't use his GI bill to boost my education unless I do this.

This GI bill could be good for us.

I don't want to be shocked I think that would really hurt

But I finally have someone offering to be a guide in my life for once and I just feel so lost and confused and I have never had that

I finally have someone offering to show some interest in me and help me

What do I do?

I've been distressed my experiments are repeated disasters I mean usually, I'm more careful

And my writing has been more violent lately even for me and so has my art

I don't know.

I have been doing to much weed too but, I'm just really stressed out. Our apartment is a mess. I'm a mess. Why am I so lost? I wish I had something to follow but I never did.

Maybe I never deserved it. Maybe my dad is right. Maybe there is something wrong with me.

At least he doesn't know the way I feel about animals. I would be more than willing to get shock therapy for that.

Not this though.

The way I love Lauren doesn't feel wrong to me at all.

That's the only thing I've ever really done right.

I just want to learn and he wants to show me? He never has before

He's finally offering me what I always wanted

Sounds like you are both trying way too hard at life, and conversion therapy using electric shocks has no scientific basis for changing someone's sexual orientation.

I don't think they do shock aversion therapy anymore. It says here the only place in the US that will perform this is in Massachusetts.

This is behavioral therapy, and I think you need something to fix your poor behavior. Do I think it has anything to do with you being a homosexual ? No. You're clearly having  episodes of foolery, so I will not believe this has anything to do with you being a faggot.

Strap in. put a stick in her mouth, and amp it up to max voltage. Go long and hard each session. Make sure the deed is done this time.

I wonder how good the shocks feel...

When you look into how that specific shock therapy works, it's not pleasant.

What they do is basically strap a taser to your head, and they verbally make you think of, say in Delora's case, Lesbianism ( Not happening but let's say ) They'll talk about it then deliver punishment.

In theory this isn't impacting the brain directly like it's supposed to, but stressing the muscles around the head, though the subject will associate the topic with pain. The brain will associate the topic with pain and this will become a part of a defense mechanism from the brain to the nervous system in the same way an avoidant was trained to associate close relationships to danger from being neglected as a child, then they grow up being all fucked up and fear the one they love most.

No one enjoys being tased so it's unlikely this will feel good.

This type of therapy is probably good for criminals as it is a form of punishment and can potentially deter them from doing terrible things. If not at least something was done.

You're conflating conditioned avoidance with actually changing the underlying trait. A person can learn that discussing or expressing homosexuality around a particular person leads to pain without their underlying attraction changing. The brain can also distinguish an externally administered punishment from the thought that preceded it. At most, your proposed mechanism could produce fear, suppression, avoidance, or trauma. It doesn't establish that sexual orientation has changed.

Homosexuality is not inherently harmful, pathological, or something that needs punishment. Starting with the assumption that it is bad and then explaining how to condition someone to fear it doesn't provide evidence that the orientation itself is defective.

And even if aversive conditioning could suppress a behavior, that doesn't establish that it is an effective or appropriate treatment. Your mechanism describes making someone avoid or suppress something, not actually changing what they are attracted to. The fact that someone learns to fear a subject doesn't mean the underlying disposition has disappeared.

 Nope.

 Nope.

Then explain how your proposed mechanism changes the underlying sexual orientation rather than merely conditioning avoidance or suppression. Saying “nope” doesn't resolve the distinction. If the mechanism is associating homosexual thoughts or behavior with punishment, you're describing an acquired aversive response. That is not the same thing as demonstrating that the underlying attraction has been changed.

You're also giving far too much credit to the idea that electrically shocking people is some generally useful behavioral intervention. Deliberately causing pain doesn't establish that someone will become more productive, less aggressive, or otherwise better behaved. At most, punishment can make someone avoid the situation in which the punishment occurs. It can also produce fear, resentment, trauma, or further aggression. There is no inherent reason that inflicting pain makes someone's underlying behavior or character better.

And in this case you're proposing it against homosexuality, which isn't inherently harmful behavior in the first place. So you're taking an already unfounded punishment mechanism and applying it to something that doesn't need to be deterred.

I wrote about the process of aversion shock therapy and that it isn't a pleasant experience.

I wrote about the process of aversion shock therapy and that it isn't a pleasant experience.

That's not all you wrote. You didn't just describe the procedure or say that it's unpleasant. You made direct and indirect claims about what it would do to the brain, compared it to other forms of psychological conditioning, said it could be good for criminals, and framed punishment as something that can correct supposedly terrible behavior. Those are claims about its effects and usefulness, not mere descriptions of the process. Saying you only “wrote about the process” now is just narrowing what you originally said instead of addressing those claims.
