I grew up an only child and yet I have a great deal of trouble being alone. Anything I have done in order to screw up my life when I was doing well by external markers of success was to avoid being alone, I think. I sometimes think on what I could have accomplished if I had no fear of being alone: would I have finished professional school, and some others are okay with being alone and become concert pianists, for example

I'd think that would be an independent variable from loneliness. I mean I was an only child and yet our struggles sound pretty different from one another.

I'd also think being truly alone in a working sense would mean to be a freelancer or something, otherwise anyone working a job tends to lean on others efforts.
