In her case it's more of a micromanagement issue, one that relates to her Anorexia problems. 

She is in a constant state of discomfort, lashes out at other people, doesn't understand why people don't like her, gets more surgery.

Dude it hit them so hard it had their children feeling it. 

Literally, not a metaphor or exaggeration. It degraded their potential for offspring in carriers, and in many direct cases the people basically MELTED AND MUTATED.
