oh and btw my goal for all this adventures out west is to try to live inexpensively on like $400 a month by living in my camper with solar panels and stuff instead of paying rent while working remotely

Nearly 10 grand in 15 days.

$1,000 on gas alone. 7000 lb camper will be hard on gas, and hard on breaks. A truck should never work so hard unless it's making money in the process.

You're probably using unlimited mobile data, but at some point you might want to consider getting Starlink for the camper, cause out there in some distant areas, there's no signal.

And of course when you're able to be more stationary it'll be cheaper. My estimate $750 a month in, food, gas, and even rent.

1/22/25 update

So that shop I told you about said my engine would be ready by the 17th but when the 17th came they basically told me that due to the manager's medical issues they would not be able to finish the engine until the 22nd (today). They also said that since the new engine I am getting is a long block, the quote they gave me of 12 hours is wrong, and it's actually going to take 20 hours....... but they said they are willing to reduce it by 2 hours to be fair... thus the new price is 18 hours at 100 an hour... so 1800... i told them okay because what else can I do?

So hopefully my truck will be done today....... though I I would not be surprised if they require 1 more day......

I also went ahead and purchased a fun electric dirt bike that can do about 40mph... it weighs about 100 lbs and cost me about $2000. its been too cold to ride it much around here lately but i did get 1 pic of it a few days ago during the afternoon

whats funny about this bike is that... so long as you keep the pedals on it, it's legally a bicycle and does not have to be registered etc

but if i took the pedals off and put pegs on like a real dirt bike... now it becomes subject to tons more legal rules lol

so hopefully tomorrow (later today technically) i can get my truck... pay the shop....... grab my camper....... and get down to phoenix where it's warm. once I get down there I can decide where to go from there... I think I need to spend a few days near some improvement / hardware stores so I can put a few days into working on my camper... I'd love to paint it, to stain the wood interior walls and cabinets, to get the water system working, to better insulate it, to install solar panels, upgrade the batteries, etc etc

Hi

So I last updated you guys in Febuary when I had to spend like 8k to have a new (remanufactured) engine put into my truck....

After the new engine was put in my truck I took my 30 foot camper further south near Mexico where it was super warm out and I didn't even have to pay any money because I stayed on federal lands.

I spent 400 dollars and purchased 800 watts of solar panels and put them on my camper. I only had 100 amp-hours of lipo4 batteries though so the 800 watts of solar power was enough that I could keep my StarLink, Wifi, gaming computer and laptops all on all day without any issue, but at night I would be forced to run my generators or the battery would drain before morning. To fuel the generators each night cost me about 5 dollars per night...

After 2 weeks camping on government lands, I decided to go to a local rv park where I can hookup to water and electricity.... Then I flew 2000 miles home and got my car and drove my car out to where I was....

While at the RV park for 1 month, my electricity cost was 140 dollars.

The 2nd month I used my solar power as much as possible and was able to get my electric bill down to 35 dollars.

I purchased an additional 500 watts of solar panels for 100 dollars but I have not yet installed them.

Then since it was getting too hot, I paid the rv park to store my camper and drove my truck back home to my family

so now my camper is parked in storage... but what's cool is that the solar panels enable me to keep the wifi, internet, and security cameras on the camper running even while in storage.. so I can check in on it whenver I want from my phone.

Also, during this last month I had about 10,000 USD wrapped up in stocks... I used leverage so that I had 20,000 of INTEL stock... and when it dropped from like 24 dollars to 20, I lost like half my money...........

Then with the remaining 5k I had I purchased CALL options on leveraged S&P bear ETFS and then the market ended up skyrocketing after trump announced a 90 day paused in tarriffs which basicly wiped out that 5k too

so now I am back home with my family hanging out here for the summer feeling kinda broke lol

so since january... I managed to lose about 10k on truck repairs / my camping adventures and then another 10k on bad investment choices.

over all I feel fine tho since Im still earning money but kinda pinching pennies now lol

How much is storage costing?  If the solar works, I assume it's outside parking right?  You're going to leave the camper for how many months?  What's next for these adventures?  Summer seems like the right time to be doing more exploring, and autumn better for going back.

Yeah, that sucks losing money. We all have hard lessons in our past.

I'm paying $50 per month to park the camper at a RV park. The RV park charged 300 a month + electricity costs to actually camp there. I also pay an additional 50 per month to keep internet on in the camper so that the security cameras remain working.

The 800 watts of solar panels on the camper is connected to 3 car-battery-sized LIPOs which cost me $200 each. I have a single fan running over the batteries and solar charger.

In the deserts out by Mexico it gets to 110 in the summer, and I bet it will get up to 120 in my camper while it's being stored. I'm curious to see if my solar system can survive the desert summer in storage without catching fire and burning to the ground.  I have heard that the solar system including the batteries should be fine up to 140 degrees.

Since I am back living with my family I have literally no bills besides my phone and weed, so my plan is to just focus on being lazy and playing video games and not spending money so I can save up a few thousand over the next month or two. Once I have a few thousand dollars I will feel a lot better. A big part of that means trying to get more work as a remote systems admin / software developer. If I can get my income up to like 2000 a month then I'll feel a lot better about that $20,000 I just set on fire

Do you meet new people still? Or did you?

What makes you genuinely passionate?
