We barely have nuclear because oil has fought so successfully against it and they are funded by the government that prints their own money.
Also, people don't get to enjoy more efficient systems as capital locks them out of the benefits so it can reap a profit. So people don't get to enjoy less work being needed and they don't get to enjoy energy being free or even just cheap.
And those same thousands of workers and researchers are being exploited by capital.People are free to quit their jobs if they want. Start a new business. Learn some new skill.
Or do nothing with themselves.
See, this brand of thinking is too present tense.
Right now, it does no one no good to upset their status quo balance, but eventually society is going to be what does that instead.
