As long as we have sufficient resources we'll survive, even on Mars.
If say there were an event that would knock out the grids across the globe and we couldn't fix it. Things would become chaotic and we'll start dying like flies and in great numbers.
We cannot survive in these numbers without technology. It'll turn into a lawless stone age where everyone will have to travel around looking for something to eat and it won't be pretty. We'd all need weapons and only the strong will survive. All lakes and freshwater sources will be guarded and booby trapped by our competition in a vast struggle of survival.
The Big Blackout of 2003
The whole eastern side of the US and Canada lost power. In some areas for several days. The footage in that video would be day 1 and taken with valuable battery power.
- There was no light pollution. We looked up and saw billions of stars in the night sky. The night was so black only passing car lights would reveal houses, it was just blackness.
- Traffic was jammed everywhere, civilians were directing traffic while every intersection without guidance was treated as a 4 way stop sign intersection.
- Line up down the street, at every gas station. The gas pumps just don't work without power.
- Ice was sold out everywhere.
- Everywhere smelled like BBQ
- Stores were closed or they could only accept cash.
A list of other things that stood out on day 1 of no power. And the power we did have was limited. If the power never came back, it wouldn't have taken long before the cars became useless, backup generators, useless. The water in the faucets would eventually stop running. No food delivery after store shelves would've been cleaned out.
What I'm pointing out here is. Without technology, we'd be so fucked.
Even for people living more away from it all. It would be a matter of time before they get unfriendly visitors while the world turned into Mad Max.
