I've played the game enough to know I'm in the Lawful/Evil spectrum, the rest are such extremists.
I'd say chaotic neutral can be very rational. Chaotic in that it doesn't see a point in codifying itself morally or legally in contrast to its desires that can vastly differ from the status quo that enjoys or sees reason in creating camps of good, evil, and astute lawfulness.
One of the questions to the alignment quiz was if I would be willing to stay in another country because of a court demand for testimony when I could simply go back to my home country. I rejected the idea of staying for the summons because to me it would be irrational to do so even if there is a supposed moral (or immoral/competitive) and legal obligation no matter if there is likely to be a lack of consequence.
