Peach is representative of a certain kind of girl who grew up in a Maryland suburb of Baltimore. Firmly if not self-consciously middle class her mother worked in an assisted living facility and her father climbed the ranks in military.
She had two older sisters and always felt she was in their shadow with respect to her parents. She received more attention from her bible-belt, church-toting grandmother. She admired Memaw’s take on femininity and her propensity to cook to entertain a throwback to a former era.
She has always been afraid of crowds evidenced by her fainting spell at the concert and seeks occasions to avoid contact with people. Idyllic to her is escaping to an island where she doesn’t require contact with others.
She made a few boyfriends growing up but they weren’t amorous and she hasn’t many couplings (sex) with men before she found herself rooming with and taking up with a sworn lesbian. She has marked insomnia. She has little foresight say more than three months ahead and does not see a future herself but remains bound by the present. She is kind of gangly awkward about five six to five eight, wears combat boots, fell in with a rough Baltimore “punk” crowd and hangs her identity around that.
She didn’t read much as a kid which to the reader is quite obvious but perceiving some cachet from “book learning” and the trappings of an acquired education, points to her brief flirtation with commercial kid-Lit like R L Stein to back up her intellectualist identity.
Harking back to her agoraphobia she appears now and again (a troll) to criticize the life paths of others, particularly one Med for which she posts scathing commentary mildly obsessed with this idea of Cougar, that med could not possibly find a partner her age, for Med exemplifies this ephemeral idea of femininity she feels it is on her to reject
Speaking of cartoons this is the sort of appraisal Peach is given to of Med, distilling Med to an age and a bankroll . She doesn’t really know Med nor does she have a facility for people (ie her assertion why can’t Med just take any man he doesn’t have to be rich or attractive and of course then he will “lack skills” in her brusque shorthand)
