If you can do something that difficult, then a type chart should be a cinch.
Learning the reactions between random assortments of one or two letters sounds way harder to me than figuring how Fire might respond to Steel Type or Rock Type. It only gets weird when you get to stuff like Ghost or Dark. When the easy ones are out of the way there's only so many weird ones left, reducing the work load considerably.
Beyond that it's mostly stats.
