Based on the type of weather presented and my Pokédex ask me what teams I would select.
Rather than asking type vs type questions?
Team strategy is a more complex question based on type v type. You choose three players. Weather usually suggests up to three types that gain boost. One strategy I foresee is knowing a trainer (your opponent) will select the three that are boosted, select those that oppose the boosted types. And then not even one-for-one because type chart is not so straightforward; however, if there are any patterns they have evaded me.
Perhaps select two boosted types and one -counter-to-the -counter -to-boosted. (See what I mean? Or do I overcomplicate it?)
Chapo is not usually forthcoming about his strategem and that’s deliberate. The type chart is worse than periodic table trends and chemistry was for me.
If I heard him talk about how he simplifies it, and not just the type chart, but battle, (and I don’t mean to write it I mean to hear it) I think I would gain some valuable insight
Do you have only thirty seconds in which to shield and in that time are you actually told what move opponent will use?
Example
Today's weather boosted is Normal and Rock (this all is probably best depicted by a flow diagram but I don't know how)
I have written on my notes choose Normal Rock and either one of Flying or Grass
Grass->ground is weak against/water is weak against [two counters to Rock]
(In my earlier game Chapo used Fighting and Water. Should remember to pit flying against fighting).
Do you have your three pokemon you usually use for Normal-Rock days designated with bookmarks in the game?
This is all compicated by the fact you cannot always switch out. Also what warning do you have of what move teammate uses before you decide to shield?
This is already too many notes for me. How do you simplify it?
The following are stong against rock: a.Fighting b. Ground c.Water d.Grass
Here’s some mnemonics, I like these
”
The classic example taught at the beginning of every Pokémon game is that fire is super effective against grass, which is in turn super effective against water, which is in turn super effective against fire. This is easy enough to follow – fire burns grass, grass thrives with water, water puts out fire – but finding similar relationships in the other 18 types is will help you remember the system.
Here are some other ideas to get you started:
Rock’s effectiveness against flying is reminiscent of the phrase “kill two birds with one stone”
Similarly, psychic is effective against fighting because “brains are better than brawn” – but psychic is vulnerable to dark and ghost because the mind cannot cope with the unknown and supernatural
Ground types are immune to electric attacks because being grounded is an important principle in electric circuits – but ground can be swept away be water, cracked by ice and exploited by grass. “
It looks as if you're putting more work into it to try to learn it rather than experience it. I mostly picked up how the type advantages play out from experience, and if I forget or mix up anything then it's fixed once the mistake is made.
This should not seem harder than a Periodic Table, the latter is harder with less room to interact with it.
