Lately I notice lots of people believing into astrology and telling me how much they know me cause my " birth sign". lmao This fucking nut-crackery is bad manipulation, tossing fake flattery around in an attempt to disarm dumb people and be in the power seat. And, I think it's all about making the delusional fake woke witch/wizard spouting this nonsense feel self important but people fall for this?
It's super trendy for some reason, so I looked it up and found a group of psychologists from Lund University in Sweden, did a study and found that people who believe in astrology "tend to be less intelligent than the norm and far more narcissistic"
As science and technology advance why are people regressing and getting dumber and more narcissistic?
"After taking a Belief in Astrology Assessment test, participants took an IQ test. The researchers found that those people who professed a belief in the powers of astrology tended to score higher than average on narcissistic measurements and also did poorly on the IQ test.
They suggest this indicates that people who have faith in astrology tend to be more self-focused than average and see themselves as special people with natural leadership skills, and who also happen to be less intelligent than the average person. They noted that the higher a volunteer scored on the IQ portion of the questionnaire, the lower their chances were of being a believer in astrology."

One of those articles reads..
Article said:The authors note several limitations. Given there was limited control over who could partake in the survey, selection bias may have been introduced into the sample. Relatedly, it is unclear how much the participants knew about astrology. As well, the overwhelming majority of participants were young women, suggesting these findings may not generalize to other populations. Lastly, some of the reported effects were small, which leaves room for false positives, and the influence of other variables beyond individual differences.
With that I'd reckon the experiment is inconclusive, and can't support any bold claims.
The best way to determine if astrology is real or not, is to check it out. One might find it accurate, while other sources are dicey.
Believing or not believing in something like this won't determine one's intelligence. At best reports like this would make doubters feel better and more intellectually intuitive.
I can't say if astrology is real or not, but I can see it's been around for a long time and still kicking.
Agree, the study is not inconclusive, few are, but it makes sense from a psychological perspective that narcissism would naturally, inhabit proponents of this belief system, as it does for many religions that put the 'believer' in the centre as a form of preacher.
One of those articles reads...
Over the past several decades, scientists have occasionally put astrology to the test despite logic suggesting there is no possible way for the movements of stars and their relative positions to influence human behavior. To date, all have concluded that the idea is nonsense. Still, millions of people around the world believe that it is a true science. In this new effort, the researchers started by noting that belief in astrology has grown in recent years, possibly as a reaction to stresses such as the COVID-19 pandemic. They then set out to find if there were some traits that were common among people who were willing to believe in a pseudo-science that has no evidence of its usefulness.

I knew religion would be dragged into this.
Religion in general promotes functional practices, while the brightest minds in history were theists. That includes Charles Darwin.

Yes I've read that, it's what this thread is about but it also states what I previously posted. The experiment was flimsy, and isn't really ready to be published. The author makes note of that ( at the end ) .
Do I think astrology is associated with narcissism ? In some cases sure, personslly I like Sagittarius. Sagittarius likes being Sagittarius too and they are into astrology the most.
Maybe people like being the cool sign, or maybe people identify with the sign.
Some people are impressed with astrology, wonder why.
I don't believe in astrology, but I'm a scorpion and scorpions are skeptical
I like scorpions! I only like the animal signs because pretending to be animals is fun. My astrology sign is some boring wheat lady for both sun and moon. LAME.
Its not a new trend. I dont know if you think it is but thats what I took from your post.
I see it like this: people struggle to fill the unknown with answers because unknowns are far more dangerous than knowns. An unknown could be a predator's eyes lurking in the dark, or an existential threat ready to uproot you. Even if youre wrong, you are more likely to survive if you simply attempt to identify unknowns rather than ignore them because those who didnt died to a wolf predating them in the dark. Stupid people who dont know how to correctly identify unknowns are normally selected out of existence in pure darwinian fashion. Unfortunately for us, horoscopes and fake astrology wont lead to your death. So the idea persists, and they are irritating and we have to deal with it.
I choose to use it as a litmus test to immediately identify someone I will never talk to again.
