. They didn't want to shoot it down over us airspace bc they were studying it for a few days apparently. It wouldn't have gather any more info than a satellite
Because of the area it was in if they would have shot it down then it would have possibly caused damages to people so they chose to shoot it down in a less populated area.
Xena's right whatever this is is probably something that might trigger something else and they're keeping tight lipped about it.
Hope it's aliens.
It's not. That was shot down a while ago
I still remember looking at the news like "wtf why is this allowed?" when it was simply allowed to exist here.

That still seems like a weird story to me, like they could tell if it's otherwise radioactive or explosive from a distance and could have the people below clear away before shooting it down.
They let it go for a while.
I heard a report today that the sky balloon had explosives in case it would've been captured. The CCP isn't too thrilled about it and tensions are rising between the US and China.
They shot down 2 balloons so far from what I gather. I think the balloon had high tech cameras, so it was more of a drone than a simple balloon.
The spy balloon had a potential 10 mile debris zone. Even if its trajectory was over clearings of that size, if those areas are not public land shooting it down is still complicated from a legal stand.
So you mean to tell me the US would be at a standstill if they sent like 200 of those things?
Official US government sources have finally admitted that "it's possible" that there may be intelligent extraterrestrial life out there.
Just when William Shatner admits that being in space was the most depressing experience of his life :(
He said that space was vast and empty, and smthg to the effect that he believes we're alone in the universe.
If Shatner's not such a good source, Carl Sagan said the same thing.

They don't really effect much in actuality.
Commercial and cargo flights happen below 30,000ft so economically it's not an issue.
The one that recently got shot down might not have been a spy balloon, that is just the particular possibility the media jumped on because it's the more interesting narrative. We won't know until the sensors are collected and analyzed.

UFOs is one of my favorite topics.
