There's around 480 million guns in circulation that are known about. There are others out there not gotten through legal means, or 3D-printed, etc.
At this point we have so many guns, both foreign and domestic, that the attempt to track them all through serial numbers and bullet suppliers, while pretty big brained a plan, is pretty much impossible to enforce.
Guns made before 1968 in the US are the ones that will typically have no serial number when it comes to local munitions, while foreign or custom pieces are the ones not typically on any registry.

We just had dudes running through the streets setting Democrat-run cities on fire and Antifa quarantining zones of cities to set up anarchist communes not that long ago, over some dumb nigger shit like a guy high on fent not being able to breath after resisting arrest for 20 minutes.

If they'd used guns you could count on the cops throwing out gas rounds having taken a bullet or two.

I've heard some conspiracies around this, I even subscribe to one based on how the news was responding during that time across both parties, but not that angle.
I think Americans as a collective would revolt if it became necessary, but only if they were given a better vision and voice than what they have now.
We're too busy fighting eachother to do anything towards the people who actually make a difference, and we further pacify ourselves every day with drugs, porn, and other distractions from feeling like one voice beneath the celebrity tier can't make a difference anymore.
They feel too poor to change the world when put next to people with accounts large enough to solve world hunger multiple times.

Maryland did ban semi-automatic "assault-rifles" and high capacity mags (over ten rounds).
No one follows the rules nor cares, including cops.
Every time I go to the range everyone is shooting AKs and ARs with 30 round mags.
Evidently something like 70-80 million people own guns in the United States, a few hundred thousand to millions will def not comply to a semi-auto ban. 50k-100k are crazy larpers with full loadouts, body armor, and fantasize stand offs with the govt.
Best bet is to ban with no confiscation, no one can buy rifles but if you already own them you're good. With that people will just mumble and grown without there being an existential crises.
