PHOENIX — Police fired tear gas to disperse abortion rights supporters demonstrating outside the Arizona Capitol Friday night, forcing lawmakers to huddle briefly in a basement inside the building as they rushed to complete their 2022 session.

Thousands of protesters had gathered earlier on the Capitol grounds in Phoenix, divided into groups both supporting and condemning the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
SWAT team members with the Department of Public Safety fired tear gas from second floor of the old Capitol building to disperse protesters in the mall between the current House and Senate buildings. KPHO-TV reported the officers opened fire when several protesters started banging on glass doors of the Senate building.

Authorities said there were no injuries or arrests.

BTW "As of May 14, 2019, abortion was legally not allowed after the fetus was viable, generally some point between week 24 and 28.

Arizona governor signs 15-week abortion ban into law

"

Abortion is legal in Arizona. fetus viability is being used as the cutoff.

Children are not viable till 8 or 9? So using this logic, a woman should be able to abort her children up until 9 yo.

"Arizona is one of many states that does not allow Medicaid recipients to use Medicaid to pay for their abortion.
State law prevents lawsuits against medical providers who omit or withhold information from patients that may lead to the abortion of an abnormal fetus. Examples include a medical provider limiting the scope of test results or avoiding tests that may result in a woman’s choice to terminate her pregnancy.
State laws add multiple hoops for women to jump through before obtaining an abortion, such as requiring patients seeking an abortion to receive an ultrasound. Additionally, patients in Arizona must endure a 24 hour waiting period before receiving an abortion. This means that a patient must go to two appointments no closer than 24 hours apart.
All abortion care, including the delivery of the pills used in a medicated abortion, must be administered by a medical doctor. Likewise, all required abortion counseling must come from a medical doctor. These rules put excessive requirements on abortion providers.
Medicated abortion cannot be prescribed through telemedicine, requiring patients in the vast rural areas of Arizona to travel to Phoenix or Tucson, where they must attend two appointments no closer than 24 hours apart.
Medicated abortion is considered a “surgical” procedure, placing unnecessary requirements on both patients and providers.
State law prohibits any insurance plan offered through the state health care exchange from offering abortion coverage except in cases where the woman’s life is in danger from continuing her pregnancy. Arizona is one of 21 states that have legislation in place to restrict abortion coverage in their insurance exchanges.
State law allows the state to conduct surprise inspections of abortion clinics during regular business hours completely unannounced. An application for licensure is needed to complete an inspection, but the inspection can be completed while the application is still in the ‘pending’ process."

First Murder Charge Linked to Roe Reversal Protests Has Been Filed

“Individuals participating in such criminal activity are not exercising their 1st Amendment rights in protest of the Supreme Court decision, rather, they are acting as criminals,” LA police reported Saturday about the mayhem, saying, “the Department will vigorously pursue prosecution of these individuals.”

“A protestor allegedly attacked a police officer with a ‘makeshift flamethrower’ KTLA-TV reported that Michael Ortiz, 30, was taken into custody where he is expected to be charged with the attempted murder of a police officer,” The Western Journal reported Sunday.

Bail was set at $1 million, according to the report.

I don't think it's a baby until it can survive outside the womb. It's just potential - it's somewhat sad to end potential but a woman should have the freedom to determine her own potential first

Roe is a much bigger issue than abortion. This is about returning power to the People that was previously taken away unconstitutionally.

Justice Alito's position on Roe is not a position against women. It's a position of empowering both men and women to their faction's choice. The People will decide at their local State level.

If there are women in Red States that disagree, they should move. You are free to do so and have as many abortions as you like in Blue States. Many are moving to Florida and Texas to escape Blue State tyranny.

"Don't come here and tell us what to do." That is Government overreach. The Constitution allows for many different factions of people to exist so that one faction cannot rule over the other. The Constitution was written by men that came from tyranny. Smart guys. I bet they had some smart women helping them.

"

“Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,” Alito writes.

“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” he writes in the document. “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”

“We, therefore, hold the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion. Roe and Casey must be overruled, and the authority to regulate abortion must be returned to the people and their elected representatives,” Alito writes in the document, labeled the “Opinion of the Court.”

Soon after Alito’s draft majority opinion leaked, it’s assumed there were at least 5 votes in favor of overturning Roe v Wade, leaving state legislators to weigh their own abortion policies.
