It's what you do so that you don't have to take perceived opposition seriously, protecting an otherwise fragile ego from bruising. You even repeat a bandwagon appeal towards how 'No one says _________', which then becomes 'You only say __________ because of TC' and 'No one in real life says these things about me'.
