They're Banning Roommates

As if it wasn't enough that most of us will never be able to own a house in many parts of the US due to the increased cost of living/ sky rocketing prices, landlord leeches and black rock and Zillow buying them cheap and flipping them as fast as possible-

One podunk lil town in the State of Kansas has decided that no four unrelated adults may live together in a shared dwelling in response to HomeRoom. HomeRoom is a lil business that pairs you up with with people that want roommates. They buy homes and set a fixed rent for each person. These people will all have their own rooms with locking doors and a common area such as living room or kitchen.

i mean yeah landlords are leeches but these prices ...

anyways, Shawnee decided that this business would somehow bring in immigrants that would lower property values and like fuck up the neighborhood, and so very eloquent said Fuck poor people by passing this bullshit.

Cruelty is the point, hostile architecture doesn't start and end only for homeless people. I'm not saying eat the rich but i am saying that you should shit on their door steps and camp out on their lawns.

I am much happier living in poverty tbh  the wealthy are so ignorant and I knew that living in the bubble of upper middle class that I used to live in was not good for my mental health because I am wanting to develop compassion and it was not going to happen with all of my needs being met all of the time especially when I barely had to work for it

essentially I was spoiled and it was benefiting no one and yeah it is frankly disgusting and pathetic the level of delusion of the wealthy I agree with you and Jesus does too  🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊✝️

Growing up I've been inside every single house on my street, except 1.

It was the first house on the street, no one really knew who lived there. One minute it's an indian family there, then next it was some white folks. The place was likely rented. Lived on that street for 18 years without knowing who the hell lives there. Theories of whoever it was there was always painted in a negative light.

Fast forward, I was once looking to rent and I found a place like that, where it had roommates. The landlord had strict rules, one of them being we can't have company over, because it freaks out the neighbors and makes it look like a drug house. Of course the place was shitty and I did not move in there once I checked it out in person and saw the rules.

The point.

People are territorial to the point where if the neighbors regularly has strangers over, it makes them uncomfortable.

There are other details I won't mention in regards to that. I'll just narrow it down and say that's a dumb law. We'll either dislike our next door neighbors or not, though high chance a homeowner won't like the environment if some of the other houses in close proximity were consistently revolving with fresh strangers.

I personally don't care, but this is the real world.

This is definitely super fucked up, but do many people live with 4+ roommates? Like is that a common thing?

I also wonder if this will survive legal challenges. Seems pretty tenuous tbh

Sounds like it’s illegal for 2 unmarried couples to live in a 2 BR. This is pretty fucked up.

This is actually a measure to allow people to afford housing.

Kansas already has second lowest cost of living in the nation, 28% lower than the national average, net average rent is like $890 for a 2 bedroom. But recently because of people buying houses enmasse and turning them into living spaces for 4-5 people it's drastically hiked the housing market. The local government fears the economy wont be able to match the demand, housing prices have spiked over 14% in the last year alone.

They're looking after their own with this measure and keeping housing affordable to the average resident, I imagine more red states will have to implement similar measures to avoid the inflated housing conditions of more populated states.

I am with you, even unto the end of the age
