It's the government's way of whitewashing the Hawaiian monarchy and making it look like there is no real heir so that the public will be more accepting of military occupation since that "princess" has no heir. 

Also she has dementia and no heir so even if she was the princess the throne is no longer hers due to being unfit to rule under hawaiian royal constitution by reason of insanity going to her adoptive cousin who is actually a native hawaiian and is the blood related niece of king kamehameha the great.

She would still be A PRINCESS by title in such cases, however, she would no longer be on the throne, being replaced by her younger adoptive cousin

And even if abigail was not in the picture at all her adoptive cousin would still be in line for the throne either way as she is the most qualified alive by blood relation, non violent crimes by neither her nor her family line, and sanity.

 Oh yeah, an there's more than that. Even abigail does not say the throne is hers but somebody else's. 

She does say she is a princess but, even if that is true, you can still be a princess but yet not have the throne.

 So, if abigail does not have the throne, or even claim to, who does?

Yes, you see the US writing shit on abigail, but not the claimant to the throne.

They want to cover their ass by acting like there is no rightful leader. 

Because it cant be no one gets the throne, or that everyone who could is dead or whatever and had no kids, or heirs, because there are thousands of decendants of the royal family, therefore they are all in a long long line for the throne, so who is at the front of that line?

They would kill the possessor if they could, but as I said the line is thousands of people long, they would have to kill every single royal family member to truly erase the throne.

That would not go unnoticed
