Christians believe in the Bible because Jesus is the word, so they have to believe in Jesus and what he did and that’s in the Bible. If you Don’t believe in the Bible, how can you believe in Jesus?

If you’re saying that they can pick and choose what to believe in the Bible, that makes no sense because if parts of the Bible are not true, then the entire thing is useless and also not true, but that’s also blasphemy because God doesn’t lie and he said the Bible is his word and his way of communicating to us.

It is our weapon against the devil and the words and promises in the Bible are true and are things we are supposed to live by and preach to others. If the Bible is not believed, how are we to spread the gospel? How can we convert people? Say hey, read this book of fantasy and believe that the guy in there is real.

That’s retarded. You can’t be a true Christian without believing the Bible is real, especially since Jesus’s own words are written there. What he actually said to his disciples and to nonbelievers is what we are to use to guide us through this life and our religion. The Bible is real and is the word of God and Jesus is the living word. And Toast is not Christian.

You can believe in what Jesus did without being a Bible Thumper though, most Christians haven't even read the book cover-to-cover from my experiences anyway.

According to Lifeway Research:

"One in five Americans, Lifeway Research found, has read through the Bible at least once. That includes 11 percent who’ve read the entire Bible once, and 9 percent who’ve read it through multiple times. Another 12 percent say they have read almost all of the Bible, while 15 percent have read at least half".

"About half of Americans (53 percent) have read relatively little of the Bible. One in 10 has read none of it, while 13 percent have read a few sentences. Thirty percent say they have read several passages or stories."

"Americans also differ in how they approach reading the Bible. Twenty-two percent read a little bit each day, in a systematic approach. A third (35 percent) never pick it up at all, while 30 percent look up things in the Bible when they need to. Nineteen percent re-read their favorite parts, while 17 percent flip open the Bible and read a passage at random. A quarter (27 percent) read sections suggested by others, while 16 percent say they look things up to help others."

"Those with evangelical beliefs are more likely (49 percent) to read a little bit each day than those without evangelical beliefs (16 percent). Protestants (36 percent) are more likely to read every day than Catholics (17 percent)."

It was authored by more than one person, there's no reason to presume at least one of them wasn't influenced by Satan.

No True Scotsman.

Also if we're to take you as an example of a card carrying Christian, you're doing it wrong.

Don't you? What other criterion are there? I thought that was a relatively prescriptive element of Christianity..

There's some Christians out there that err towards a potentially Gnostic path with ideas like "I don't believe in a book, I believe in a living god". They can still believe in Jesus and God while taking The Bible as a book of fables rather than as fully accurate accounts of history.

Thank you

It depends on what you mean by believe in bible. Believing that the Bible was influenced by God, for example, is different from thinking it's the literal word of God. It then comes down to interpretation.  That's why there are so many denominations.

if parts of the Bible are not true, then the entire thing is useless and also not true,

That's a logical fallacy.

It's worked pretty well for the lutherans.

What do you mean real? You mean you take it literally word-for-word?

I just read the summary of it from your wiki link, what problems do you have with it exactly?

Is him using a sourcebook like that any different from you using websites?

Not true. I’m doing it correctly. It’s a journey, not a destination.

The main sources I draw from:

1. CTMU -- logical, mathematical, probably the most correct and real

2. Urantia Book -- great, intricate cosmology that also tries to address things in a more modern way, plus full account of Jesus' life

3. Spiritism -- it's version of reincarnation and spirit activity involved in life really makes sense, though it has trouble jiving with the first two on some points

I also have read other things.  I enjoy much of Buddhism.  I consider it "myth-making" on a personal level.  Narratives designed to understand on a more emotional, than rational level.  Read "More Than Allegory".

Now get off my back. :)

You're not abstaining from sex before marriage even a little bit, you lie near-constantly, and your pride is through the roof.

You even from time to time post super long logs of Envy, and rather than work you've given way to Sloth if Tryp's version of events is anything to go by (as well as your reasoning now for why you're fucking it up). You also have a real Wrath problem it'd seem.

You're doing it wrong, try harder.

The part I highlighted in red is the part I take interest it. I'm a little weary of the "spiritism". The bare naked beliefs of Christianity are having trust/faith in Christ. Praying to him, trusting him, knowing him, etc.
