I think someone else asked for this before, but could there be a daily limit on an accounts ability to create topics?

I think as a passive deterrent it'll slow down much of the problem if a reasonable number can be decided on, and from a spammer standpoint they'd need to waste time creating multiple accounts to even try to flood the place. It'd even stop a bot script from spamming on single accounts.

If the variable could be adjusted with ease, us picking a number too great or too small could be changed quickly too if a formerly decided on number turns out to be bad.

Here we are, tying our OWN hands because some cp spammer wants to feel relevant.

Ed, be realistic. How many topics do you make in a day?

Not posts, topics.

Depends on what I want to achieve. Maybe one day I want to bury a topic from the first page for some reason.

How is this relevant?

I just want other people to read this shit and be confused whether it's part of the post or not.

So you'd aim to spam the website just to bury a single topic?

How will a limit on topics solve any issue? Are you going to put  a limit on accounts made too?

I just want other people to read this shit and be confused whether it's part of the post or not.

I'd like to keep my doors open. Allowing for SOME mischief around here is part of SC tradition. You are trying to force everyone to behave now and FOREVER, and I find it repugnant.

Sometimes people just want to spam a bit. Maybe a dox or smth. Maybe an idea. Any limit put on this place takes away from it, as long as it applies to everyone.

The best idea is a reputation system where restriction apply to new accounts, or specific accounts. Which was done before. :D

The extra steps and hassle would slow potential spammers down while not slowing down people on the mod-side one bit. It'd make bot scripts need to be more sophisticated, being designed not just to make topics but to also build more accounts.

It isn't as insane as incorporating CAPTCHA, an idea you seemed to love for some reason.

So you don't actually have a reason?

You realize Cawk has given me a remarkably similar argument for why it's okay for him to do exactly what he's doing right now?

I think it could be done without spamming the front page, otherwise we end up with people like Goober and FireMeetsIce dominating things no differently from Cawk (save for the CP).

That idea was terrible.

i doubt a spammer can make a bot to pass the captcha at creating accounts
but it may not be out of the real of possibilities, if they are really into it, but i think it would be a very hard task in general

Cheery bye!

Just find your own and use those. Posted Image

You could even host your own database of them on imgur.
