I'm surprised how scant the brain research is on the topic.

I remember watching the streamer Sweet Anita for a bit (her tics are not sweet). She described the sensation of a tic as something where it feels like a buildup happening, something you can feel. Then a release, like what you said.

People with Tourette's will often say how they are not meaning what they are saying 99% of the time. It's almost like some subconscious dark side that comes out for some of those people. What that dark side is, I have no idea. Apparently it's something we're all built with, because when the restraints come down it just comes out.

After watching the first episode of History of Swear Words on Netflix, I've begun re-evaluating the utility of cuss words.

They are habit forming, yet are still part of a lingual codex. Even people trying to borrow cuss words from other languages often comment on how it still accesses that 'feeling'. I suspect that certain clusters of consonants that allow the vowel sound to twist while still carrying a harsh tone, like the 'I' in 'Bitch' or the 'U' in 'Fuck', or even the 'U' in 'Puta'. It's an outlet, a release, offering more room to exclaim than saying 'Gosh Darnit' over how it forcibly softens it and removes the twisted vowel sounds. This is why stress cases find more catharsis in it's release than non-built up people.

I suspect that people with Tourette's (and possibly some Sagittarians) aren't more prone to saying those words as if possessed, but rather have a shorting out going on with their restraint towards this area of language. I've seen my share of people who just cuss uninhibited, that seems more like an adaptation, while Tourette's types are basically saying them uncontrolled with increased prevalence as they become more stressed out, making it look like a loose seal with some sort of adrenal twitch that builds outside of their control (beyond stress management strategies).

Even Tourettes Guy yelling "BOB SAGET" isn't too different from yelling "FAGGOT", and I suspect that vowel connection is related. I could probably make up cuss words that achieve a similar effect if I stick to these sorts of phonetics, as I've seen someone do with the made up word "Shrock".

I love how crudeness in language seems more connected to sound than meaning, as if the tonation itself is the attack.

As someone diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome, I can tell you the feeling is the same as an urge to scratch your nose when it tickles. If you don't scratch, the itch goes away, and you can choose not to scratch. But you feel like scratching anyway. You can control tics, you just need self-control. It's not like someone else takes over and does it for you. It's all you.

Odd, I've seen it more described like lingual muscle spasms that get worse with stress.

It's voluntary. You feel strongly like doing it, but it's not involuntary or automatic. You're the person who ultimately decides if you follow through or not.

I don't think that's right.
