Ethereal Wave- music for fever dreams

As I explored the post-punk, gothic, and darkwave genres I found this particular strain of this type of music known as ethereal wave. While the others can have things in common with new wave, punk, and krautrock... ethereal wave has more in common with stuff like dark ambient. It's more atmospheric and moody, sometimes even dissonant. The melodic overtones have this dysphoric undertone to them and the vocals are often hard to decipher. It's like the soundtrack to a fever dream.

I like slowdive and bel canto. A cool fact about bel canto is that Geir Jennson was part of it at one point, and he is actually the man behind the ambient handle Biosphere, who made the legendary Substratta album. This mortal coil is pretty good too, it's got a lot of overlap with Coctaeu Twins.

The best slowdive songs to me are souvlaki space station and alison

yeah those are good. It's sacrilege among the shoegaze crowd, but I actually like slowdive more than MBV. I just like sounds closer to the dreamy/gothic if I'm gonna go for that type of music. A good slowdive-like song for me is this one-

Chromatics and slow dive are good.

clams casino, xxuyyxx, bird ya nam, caribou, slow meadow, the xx... tycho, fourtet...

Baths, glass animals, and... hammock.
