When it says ‘American’ does that mean Native American? I find it really hard to believe there’s more Native American than Italian.
(she says, from her extensive experience of watching American movies and once having worked with someone from Carolina)
It probably means people who don't know their ethnicity

Ahh yeah I guess that makes sense.
This might be a stupid question, but would that many white Americans really not know their ethnicity? Like, wasn’t it only colonised in the 1700s? Or maybe it’s just mean like a mix of different European backgrounds?
@Gypsy, this is from the website, "Native Americans, which includes anybody with ancestry from North, Central or South America as well as Alaska, make up 1.6% of the US population. Prior to European colonization, Native Americans were the original residents of the present-day United States. Unfortunately, the arrival of Europeans meant new exposure to diseases, and often involve a violent outcome. The Native American population dwindled, and today the population group still disproportionately suffers from high poverty rates."

Wow I didn’t even think it would be that much tbh, just over 1% would still be millions of people. Again, from my extensive experience of watching lots of series and not noticing many Native American characters.
