I challenge you, I challenge you to give 200% at your work place for 3 years. If you do that, I am telling you and I guarantee you, you will see a huge positive difference carreer wise from where you are standing now from 3 years from now.

I know, 3 years, too much right? I know that's why just a few are actually sucessful. That commitment is hard, and hard to have faith that all this time you busted your ass, will pay off. What a gamble uh?

Not everybody is able to give 200%. It is not only a function of effort. There are circumstances and they are often more important than capacity. I agree that effort is important, but the equation of effort = success IS bullshit that is very rarely true and a lot of successful people that try to push the narrative are hypocrites.

I give 110% at work compulsively, I wish I didn't, because it's honestly not worth it.  I've never seen anything for the effort.  What I see most commonly is that charisma is more important in the workplace than effort.  And frankly, so is luck.  Effort is not necessarily worthless, but it can be depending on your workplace, and it's even more rarely the deciding factor.  Like dd said, this is some shit successful people say to permeate the narrative that they earned their good fortune, that it must denote some kind of superiority of character.  It doesn't.
