anyone can create a server in a second means it's a constant PR game if you're a server owner and if you do anything your community does not like, they'll create a new server and ditch you

The test of time is the true gold standard, a social influence snowball that builds off it's own history. People return past a point for the culture, the people and the environmental expectations that have become habit, but they need to make it a habit in the first place.

The challenge is mostly towards the beginning, and I'd argue the same for Discord servers. Anyone can make a forum using pre-made assets just the same as a discord server.

From what I can see this place feels special, but is nothing special.  It is a bubble outside or within normal life where you find people that are interesting, charismatic, broken, different etc. You can see power dynamics and relationships between people amplified a 100 times and it is very intense. But it is artificial and people that thrive in here could never survive or exist in the real world. They need bubbles. There are many bubbles like this one. It attracts you, because when you are in the bubble it feels special or whole etc, like you are the center or at least a meaningful part of a real world. But when you can exist on the outside you can really see it is just a bubble, not real life, based on lies etc kinda like The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio. Just not as cool, because in the whole picture, people that need to stay in the bubble just look pathetic and unhappy.

Interesting perspective, just reminds me of this place.

You only reply to your own topics from an inability to relate to other people.

People with 18, 19 years old are peaking in their narcissism. They think they are the most intelligent, most interesting and hold more knowledge than old people and whatever they do or have been through the younger one thinks he could do much better.
I never really bothered reading BH’s posts. He is the young kid begging for attention.

I meanwhile both read the guy's posts and met him, he's not just "some teenager" for this deficit.

Were you friends? If so, did you remain friends after meeting?

I'd say so, but I'm prone to long bouts of not sending private messages so that may have faded.

While I would not call myself a success, I otherwise beg to differ. People who thrive here tend to do so from being somewhat used to social dynamics, while the ones unaware of them have the problems pointed out for them here, often.

I see it more like this:

1. Rules establish the culture.
2. Time gives the culture value, if it survives.
3. People return for the consistency, both for the people and the understood norms.

A lot of people who return here talk about how stuffy rules-based cultures are, which has this place appeal to those averse to it. The lack of rules beyond the bare minimum to survive are a large part of what makes this forum culture what we understand it to be, just how places with harsher rule sets leave their own mark more intentionally.

Ye we cool. I go through pretty long bouts of not messaging people too, as long as somebody hasn't fundamentally changed to someone I no longer wish to talk to, time has never effected my friendships.

My grandiose delusions are better than yours.

don't you find it strange to meet up with teens while being in your 30s?

forums are completely customizable and unique if you have the ability to.....discord servers aren't. on discord, all you'd need to do is to copy names of channels and roles

any sucker could replicate a discord server. but not a forum

having something everyone else can't have is a vital factor. discord is a constant popularity battle

if everyone here was able to copy this site in an instant like on discord and not have to pay for domain and hosting, we'd be on a different forum today not this one

Not really, we're both adults.

Do you?

Discord can implement bots that basically allow customization in the same way as forums when it comes to customizable borrowed assets.

If you ignore the art and content servers anyway, or the beta game servers, or a bunch of other types really.

You are only commenting on the cringiest demographic of it.

Aren't we arguably on a different forum now?
