@ topic, discuss it and if more then just cawk wants it, fine.
Eduard and I are the only ones who ever give enough of a shit about the site to suggest features.
I do see others complain about stuff (like Blanc not being able to hide posts in her topics anymore)
If I remember right, she asked for the gore pic to be removed by a mod, not to want to hide the post (with the option for others to still view it).
Yeah, and the ability for the OP to hide posts was the former compromise, as people who wanted to see what was removed still could. It also worked as a minor CP deterrent when there wasn't someone on to delete it immediately.
It's a shitty thing, but it doesn't hurt the site bad, because most people will view the post out of curiosity anyway.
Basically yeah.
I like seeing what people feel the need to hide from themselves and their precious topics, so ultimately I think it adds to topics instead of taking away from them. The one who's hidden the post is also very easily held socially accountable for their choice.
Topic poster post hiding feature like on S-C was an overreach of Loona, as well as other features such as senate and reputation system. They are out of place here.
How was that an overreach? Every user had the same level of topic control, and the "censored" posts could still be seen.
1. Every user doesn't post the same amount of topics.
2. Every user doesn't get the same amount of activity in their topics.
They all have the same potential for it though. What they do and don't do with the same tools is a matter of individual accountability.
As opposed to promoting inequality, it's closer to changing the structure of how we understand topics. There is for instance nothing to stop someone from making a rival topic where that OP isn't able to hide stuff.
If you don't want to see somebody's posts, block them on your end and you won't. Hiding posts from everyone is censorship by authority, authority would be in that case, the topic poster.
...but they could just click a thing and it'd reappear, basically like Discord's block system but for individual posts.
It's unnecessary censorship.
Is it really censorship though? The content is still there.
It's more like they built an ineffective fence around it that we can all point and laugh at.
It also shows that they felt the need to block the content at all, which to me looks more like a public display of weakness than strength.
"Let's throw the ideals under the bus to find out about each others' weaknesses."
How is it against "the ideals"?
Deleting content, yes, but this isn't even obfuscating it, it's just adding a single click to the process that, in turn, makes their post seem more intimidating and infamous.
As I saw with Discord blocks, having to click to reveal sort of works like a curtain call; it drums up additional suspense.
SC's ideals are about equality. Mods should not have perks over normal members except their mod tools.
What do you plan on using it for?
It was added for mods and admins purely for how it's helped for handling spammers in the past. Not being able to be seen when you're online makes it harder for people to predict a schedule, thereby disarming one of many spam plots.
Other than that use though what purpose would it serve?
Why are you even asking?
You are always in offline mode on Discord. Why are you being such a hypocrite?
How is it the same for here as Discord? It's two completely different platforms with different reasons for it.
Discord and here are not very different.
At least for myself anyway, I go on here for general discussions, while I go on there to message just a few people. Discord is more like AOL instant messenger, Skype, MSN, Oovoo, etc, in that it is primarily a chat platform. It's more tailored towards the individual by giving them all tools as opposed to trying to build something singularly upon itself.
For the chat client, I understand the necessity for it, but it seems needless and extra on a forum that isn't styled to work like Reddit (beyond the earlier discussed mod clause).
I'm trying to figure what you'd even get out of it other than concealing a puppet army, as otherwise I don't really see the more direct benefits for you.
The thing is, here you're mod and could use it whenever you felt like it, therefore you lack reason to push for the suggestion that everyone has it because you wanna feel special, although based on ideals, it'd be the right thing to support my suggestion.
I haven't had a reason to use it though. With my avatar sticking to the screen, and the ability to make my status look orange while I'm active instead of just when I'm idled, it's effectively accomplishing the same thing.
Before invis was a thing I'd accomplished the opposite by appearing to be online 24/7 with an auto-refresh script. All having the invis function really did for me was save time and effort for modding. It originally came into being from me asking if Luna could make me appear online all the time... but somehow she ended up accomplishing the opposite.
