St. Augustine

but it depends on what kind of community you’re looking for lol

st. Augustine is a very artistic community and has a lot of, vibes to it that were just, inspiring and beautiful to me. It’s blissful. And the beaches are quieter, rather than over crowded. And the sand is white. It’s very windy. A lot of young people. But, not *much* to do in the town itself, it’s quaint. It’s a beautiful little town. The roads get quite foggy in the morning and at night though so that’s- dangerous.

In treasure island for example the sand is hard, compacted, and yellow. So it feels like concrete. There is nothing going on there, it’s a retirement community. So its very very boring, and the people there are just tourists. It’s nothing but condos, and they’re not really that nice. The water is very placid.

St. Pete is, um... how do i say this.. it’s redneck heaven. Trailers as far as the eye can see. Pro-trumpers, a lot of motorcycles. The best walmart they have in town isn’t even the full size, but- it’s where everyone shops. It’s, very poor. A lot of drinking and, gangs. Make-shift vehicles. Rat tails. Camouflage outfits. Florida crackers. There is zero culture in st.pete outside ofthat.

A nicer condo tourist beach community is Destin. It’s more luxury. But, it’s pricier. It’s prettier than most beaches, but beacuse it’s further north it’s a bit chilly some parts of the year. The water is more placid here.

Something to keep in mind is these beach communities regularly get absolutely *rocked* by tropical storms and hurricanes. Like, if you buy a beach front property, they get demolished. I’m not talking like, a little roof leak. I’m talking like, there’s nothing left of the house it’s just a concrete foundation. They literally get blown apart to pieces. The storms are really really really fucking rough. In the summer, in Florida, it rains every single day- i mean, let me rephrase that. It’s *extreme thunderstorms* every single day. If you are Floridian then you already know. But, it’s quite extreme compared to other places. And that’s just a daily thing, every evening around 3-5pm. these storms are pretty, uh... it’s a lot. I’m used to it i guess but, most people are scared of them and um... well just something to know like, yeah it’s downside i guess to Florida.

Also, something to know about beach front properties is if they have not been properly taken care of, they may be cheaper to buy, but they most definitely have a huge bug problem. So you have to have maintenance done on that like regularly, the bug people come and just spray the place down. Because yeah otherwise, it’s just a big problem here in Florida in general. With spiders and roaches. But the beach front properties get absolutely riddled with roaches if it’s not taken care of.

a lot of beach communities in Florida are very druggy. A lot of Rastafarian’s, a lot of pot heads, a lot of meth. I mean, a lot of it. They’re kind of run down and trashy, like- Daytona for example. Is very down hill. It’s practically abandoned because the area is so rough no one wants to go. So it’s not a great place to raise kids. A lot of beach communities um... your kid will end up, most likely doing drugs. Is what I’m trying to say lol it’s just not like, the cleanest, “nicest” communities in Florida. The beach communities are rougher around the edges i guess.

A lot of bummy types are attracted to it.

another beach is new Smyrna beach. This community is mostly tourism, it’s literally beach condos and beach houses surrounding it as far as the eye can see. It’s also very close to a famous town in Florida known as casa daga- which if you’re into witch craft and spirituality psychic shit, or weird shit like that. You probably wanna go there, it’s creepy vibes like Salem. NSB though is just yeah, pure tourism. The only thing thats not real estate properties

but yeah it’s not cheap to live there, it’s um, beach front or close to beach front is usually 1 million to 700k- and 700 is like, very run down and abandoned property that needs major fixing. It’s a very bummy community, but all the Florida locals go there for some reason, so it’s very crowded and lively. Lots and lots of people. Like, literally, so crowded. So, crowded.

It also has the best surf (except st. Augustine is also great surf), so it’s where all the surfing competitions are held and, um, all the surfers are there.

But it’s also the uh.... shark capital. It’s actually infested, with sharks like. Also, dangerous jelly fish on the off occasion, and, yeah you just need to know what you’re doing. So there is something called the drop off, and i think u can understand what that means. Where the sand in the water just uddenly tanks downwards several feet. Suddenly you’re in deep water. Yeah- you never wanna go past this drop off. This is where the sharks hang out. If you go past the drop off you also risk, getting swept away with the rip current and drowning.

For this reason there is life guards on duty.

The only area that there is actually “stuff” like restaraunt and shops, is “Flagler avenue” which is populated with tourism round the clock. Business does very well there. Awesome, food. A lot of younger people, younger crowd. And lots of bars. Lots of people drinking.

But yeah people drown and get bitten by sharks at this place (and die) very regularly, so... just keep that in mind.

Ormond beach is ugly. For this reason it’s cheaper, but the sand is very rough like sea shells that cut up your feet. And it’s just, super ugly like... horrible. Lol it’s nothing but condos for tourism but, they’re like, run down run of the mill, gross. The surf is equivalent to NSB’s surf, it’s equally as rough.

A better beach for the faint of heart who aren’t into Intense waves, would be Anna Maria island. Unfortunately this beautiful bubble has been bought up, and it’s very difficult to find anything for sale on the island. But, there are a lot of rental properties. This island gets evacuated regularly for hurricanes. But it’s in the gulf, aka the western side of Florida, so the water here is very calm. It’s very clear. And the sand is white and fluffy. The tourism is a little heavier in the summers but, it’s not that bad, certainly not over crowded. It’s like a little slice of Hawaii (as close as you can get) and they have a lot of great little restaraunt and shops and stuff, it’s quaint but, enough of a community to keep tourists sort of entertained.

I absolutely love the coffee shop there, yes, *the* coffee shop. There is only one on the island. Lol. It’s a very small island. But yeah.

The only downside to Anna Maria island is, when the storms *do* come, you willl start getting 8-15 foot waves for some reason lol, and it’s fuckin gnarly. But yeah very dangerous i dont’ recommend going out there when the sky is dark grey.

But the rest of the time the water is insanely calm and clear so, idk. Lol

another downside is they were having a problem there in 2019 with something called, “red tide” and, I’m sure it’s resolved by now but, every now and then the beach gets “sick” with this bacteria, lining its coast. And it turns the shore red, the water is red-ish etc. and you can’t *touch* it. Or it will make you fucking deathly ill.

It doesn’t happen often but, it does happen from time to time, and stays, for like, prolonged periods like weeks or a few months. Once in a blue moon sort of thing.

There are no condos or hotels on Anna Maria island, it’s just houses and they’re all very cute and nice IMO, without being ostentatious or “luxury” necessarily, just sort of, normal beach houses.

Some fun stuff to do at the beaches: canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, jet ski’s, biking, sky diving, parasailing.

Beach tips: if you see a sting ray, shuffle your feet. They don’t like it. If you see jelly fish washed up on the shore, don’t touch them, they can still sting you. The sand is riddled with crabs and sea lice, keep that in mind. Sex on the beach isn’t as good as it sounds. Your car and house will get filled with sand, 24/7. The feeling of sand also wil just, be all over, you. All the time. In your hair. Your eyes, and your shoes. If you collect sea shells and sandollars, keep them outside. They will Make your entire house smell like dead fish. If you want to get a parking spot, go early. If you don’t want to get up caught up in traffic leaving the beach, you need to leave before 4pm.

Don’t go past the fucking drop off, if the current is pulling you out- you need to stay closer to the shore line. Don’t go neck deep in water. If you get bumped by a shark you need to swim to the shore immediately. you get caught in the rip current, you need to swim with the current. Which is, if you are facing the water just looking at it and seeing the horizon, is left. So if you are in the water, it’s right. And you swim along that shore, with the current of the water pushing you up

Onto the shore. Otherwise you will drown as the current will be too strong to swim against, and it will pull you further and further out, you will become exhausted. If you do try to surf, you need to guard your head above all else if you crash. A lot of surfers end up going unconscious hitting their head on the floor underwater and drowning. If you are drowning, or getting tossed up in the waves whatever, you need to keep your mouth shut as tight as you can at all times. Do not open your mouth and scream though it may be your natural reaction. As your mouth will fill with sand, it will enter your lungs. A life guard can rescue you and the hospital can clear your lungs of water. But, they cannot remove, sand. So you are dead, because you didn’t fucking shut your mouth while you were drowning.

And lastly.

To talk about the famous beaches.

Miami! Beach- this is not a safe place for tourists, a lot of sex trafficking, drug trafficking and gang activity goes on here! Every weekend it seems like, there is a murder. I was there once when there was an actual crime scene just set up casually on the fucking beach. It’s an absolutely beautiful city full of so much life (especially night life and clubbing) but it’s very dangerous. It’s also very expensive my dude!!! The restaraunts, the hotels/condos, etc. to get property there.... yikes. Have fun with that. and there is a heavy Latin influence there in the culture. It’s not peaceful or relaxing, it’s bustling and busy and lively. I once spotted a famous rapper there and it was cliche but he was being chased by some people. It’s fun to like dress up and feel important or feel fabulous it’s kind of like, idk. That’s just, Miami. It’s glam. It’s ostentatious. Over the top. Sort of the Las Vegas of Florida.

Miami in recent years was completely *obliterated* by a really bad hurricane (a common theme with beach communities you’re seeing eh?) and i believe they are still recovering so, it was pretty bad a lot of stuff got torn up.

There are other beach communities all along the gulf coast, but they are all torn to shreds, or newly rebuilt. Is what you’ll sort of find. The communities themselves are run down or ghostly. Like, Panama City for example. Because um... the storms just, rock them so hard. But for some reason everyone goes to panama for spring break. Its uh... its trashy though. Nothing great about it. But all the houses there if you look on realtor, you’ll see they’re mostly blown to bits by storms and just abandoned lol

the Keys!

The keys are *vERY HOT* in the summer. As they are the closest to the equator, it is very hot. Destin is the “coolest” beach in my opinion to contras that.

The keys has the most FUN if you are into marine life and oceanology, boating, scuba-ing.

There are coral reefs, lots of fish, but with that also comes some harmful animals and jelly fish which you should educate yourself a bit about.

The famous mile marker zero is a common tourist attraction but, it’s just tourist traps for miles leading up to that mile marker-

um.... lots of shops,... restaraunts.

But the actual keys themselves are very uh, they try to keep it sort of not condo-y and built on, it’s more rustic beach experience with like rocks and stuff you can stand on

but yeah it literally gets to be so ducking hot that it’s unbearable.

Off the coast of the keys deep into the water, like I’m talking 3500mi. Deep water, there are small islands. One of these islands is owned by Beyoncé. Which is cool. The water um, is not something you should try to rent a boat and navigate on your own! No one should let you do that but I’ve seen it happen where people try to drive boats that do not know how to boat. Very bad idea. Do not dO THAT

anyways, it’s great for fishing, if you like doing that. The water there. You’ll catch a lot of fucking fish and, there is competitive fishing there, and uh... yeah one time my crew caught a shark. So yeah. Lmao, shit happens. So if you wanna catch the big fish, the keys is where you do it.

If you wanna scuba, and see lots of dolphins and shit. The keys.

I've been to Florida many times, it sucks. I originally was to marry someone from there so I did a few visits, and after that I went back for an Everything Is Terrible show in Jacksonville and otherwise camped a bit in the Everglades.

The heat is unbearable during the Summer to the point of frying brains and no fun in Spring and Fall. Consider that it founded the "Florida Man" meme for a reason. Even a place I stayed had human claw marks inside the bathroom on the door, like someone locked someone in there to starve or something.

The wealth gap is more-than noticeable. If you are poor it's a really, really shit place to be, while if you're rich you or your family can afford gated community housing or other forms of classist protections (like strong air conditioning and temperature sealing doors/windows). I'm not sure why, but I've seen a bit more racism there than other places I've been, too (maybe it's the heat?).

This is a "don't do it" from me, it'll make everything worse. Their drug trade's notable as well with some pretty harsh substances available, so it might not be best for your bo' either.
