So how would you define downtime vs uptime?

The numbers of users over a rough span of time, based on what span of time we're generally trying to gauge.

I'd for example say that this month's definitely been closer to downtime, while last month's activity had spikes in it based on our star attractions filling the seats.

I'd say that this is half-decent activity for Summertime, actually. This season's usually much more down than up with us relying on Spring and Fall activity to restock in the place's otherwise natural magnetism.

So number of unique users online per month? Or unique posters with 10 posts or more per month?

I'm looking for a measurable definition.

number of unique regular users who logged in within the past month

'what defines a regular user?'; not a sock account

I log in much more than I post. Is that really activity?

You know the main issue I have with this the-end-is-nighing, it's a lack of committment. Instead of vaguely alluding to the end of SC why not give an exact date and time? Like doomsday sayers, claim you deciphered ancient programming documentation which predicted something cryptic and voila, we've all got something to look forward to.

It depends on what it's being gauged for/against.

Presuming you're actually reading the content on here, it's like, I dunno, 1/5th the way there? Seeing a large roster of people on during a talk between half that number of people still at least has the appearance of higher activity than if it's just the ones talking who are otherwise online.

one or two users will always remain here until the owner decides there is nothing left for him to get out of it

the users of sc drove luna much harder to make updates to her site. under the new owner there is no new ideas, or chaos, no drama, no drive to push the forum software into uncharted waters

luna had passion and fire. the new owner is as lethargic and boring as a cucumber

if jim and turncoat didn't crush so hard on luna, they would not have put so much effort into destroying what she made. they have no crush on the new owner and it shows

Yes, so how would you define it? I've been trying to pin you down on this for multiple posts now lol.

Fair enough, but it's hard to measure how much someone is actively lurking. I suppose it could be measured in the amount of page requests, but that'd be susceptible to inflation due to spam.

I  tend to divide it by seasons, usually only looking at it in smaller allotments of time only when prompted over it.

To attempt to measure it we'd need something a bit more concrete though. The seasonal effect is important to take into account but we'd able to see it by comparing past years' activity at the same month and day.
