They should stop doing that.
Their reasoning was that in the 18th cen, no official notation was widely accepted, but the multiplication sign switched to • so they standardized comma decimal notation to avoid confusion.
The US didn't switch from × to • until much later so we got comfortable in our ways of using the period for decimals.
Tbh maybe we should switch, my handwriting is sloppy af and I have to recheck my multiplication dots and decimals points frequently.
