we are on the internet
dark ages are called like that, due to the lack of recorded history
I think if anything, humans are far better off now than they've ever been. When you hear about the history of Rome, or the campaigns of the Middle Ages, or the Renaissance, one thing that's often omitted is that you are talking about the history as a small fraction of people at that time experienced it.
For most of human history, the vast majority of people have been illiterate farmers. They had no access to medicine and would often die in their 40s. Diseases would run rampant. Sometimes there would be a bad harvest and they would just die. They were often having 8-10 children because a lot of children would die young. And of course there was always a risk the mother would die giving birth. Sometimes barbarians or soldiers would roll through and just take whatever they wanted.
We have our own unique issues in this timeline. But comparatively, things are pretty good. Most people in the West can get healthcare, they have access to the Internet, women can vote and work toward equal rights. I think we're ok.
Of course, this is true and I find it so mind-boggling how some people think it was better before. All you have to do is to imagine how your day would go if you lived in the past to see how much worse your quality of life would be. Ofc at least you didn't have whiny people that take issues with BS(and don't cry how it was better before too), because they would all be killed if they lived in the past, so there is always some positivity in any negativity.
