I've always imagined it more like speaking in a hushed tone or whisper. 

Pretty much.  A parallel thought, I guess, to be noted on its own, but relevant in context (at least, loosely).

Basically how I've been imagining your abuse of the parenthesis. 

We have a lot of great ideas. We need to narrow it down to like maybe 7 or 8 top choices so I can start looking for links, unless they were already posted.
