Utilitarianism VS Consequentialism

10 minutes into it and I'm so pissed no one has said what I've been thinking,

Clearly the difference between pushing someone off a bridge to save lives as opposed to being the fucking train driver are different in only one way. The train driver has forced responsibility, while the bystander on the bridge has the illusion of deniability. One is far easier on the conscious and less forced than the other

For many people that difference isn't there, especially when it comes to human life.

The more interesting conundrum of morals/ ethics is the surgeon with 5 patients requiring transplants and the healthy back packer that is a match for all the patients...

1. Strictly a #'s game. The backpacker dies and saves 5 others.

2. Unethical/ Immoral wrt back packer.

But would the surgeon be a hero or a sick fuck? ....

I feel there is no true answer to that question. It's relative to what you believe is right or wrong.

Okay...suppose;

1. The surgery was performed on you as the donor of 5 bits. = Right/ Wrong?

2. The receiver was someone important to you, that was suffering organ failure. Right/ Wrong?

( you are not the back packer in #2)

1. Wrong.

2. Right.

I value my own life, and people important to me are more important than those who are not.
