You really have to get into the language and context of the Jewish era of the day, turn the other cheek means should some one insult you, like smacking your face with a glove, turn the other cheek.  But JC wasn't the most non-violent guy, remember the Temple with the money lenders?  And he knew who to prepare for possible confrontations ahead:
