I Do

I.
Your words are crushed glass
As I breathe them in
My lungs will not hold
Mine are covered in petrichor
They gurgle up my throat
Slip past my lips.
You swallow them whole.

II.
If I were more than I was yesterday
More than I am now
You would have left no sooner
Metal always rusts in the end

III.
Fragile born words float past
Your chapped lips
I remember the feel of your skin
ribs I have bruised for fear
One day you would see me holding
The kite string long after the kite
Crashed

IIII.
The white silk wrapped around
The swell of you hips
Delicate lace that covers your breast
I can hear your heart from here
Can see the unblemished skin of your neck where my lips once left bruises
Your smile shifts
the ground beneath my feet
How heavy two words can be

V.
The sun still rises

The memory of your smile

lingers in the shadows
