both chat and post bans ban the ip of the account you banned.

I can't actually do IP bans, just banning the name. Even "bans" are split into two areas: Chat and Post. A person could be unable to talk in chat while perfectly able to do so in posts.

There was some mild drama during the Kiwi Invasion when Luna had to do IP bans because it involved her having to look at IPs to do it (among other issues).

The new features would be able to cross into both platforms if she wasn't so hellbent on designing it from scratch every single time.

Sounds like something she could work on...though I feel her interests lie elsewhere.

There is a dilemma where users can log onto new accounts through TOR if they are IP banned.

No, you can't make new accounts with tor now. This was put in place after the latest dex ban.

I also thought the ban meant that a particular ip and all associated accounts with that ip get muted. But there were some incidents when Shane's many new accounts were script-spamming in chat and suddenly the 5 minute chat ban happened. During that time ALL the accounts that were spamming got muted at once, so they must have had a common ip. Turncoat probably muted some of the new shane accounts by hand, but the mute didn't generalize to all the other Shane puppets. Not sure what to make of this.

A banned person can create a new account, and then use TOR to log in with it.

there are plenty of proxies other than tor

when FullGaze/tpg got banned he told everybody he had to change his ip address permanently cos he couldnt post under any account with that ip.
