SH made a good point. Can't speak for everyone, but your zealousness for self-defense has spurred a lot of what you see as vindictive behavior toward you.

I haven't thought much about it really. I shut off my information sorters when the contradictions I see are non-threatening and/or irrelevant to smthg I'm trying to build.

By that I mean I'm here for a specific purpose that could be likened to building a house or whichever. I can look to my right for this tool or that, and see a column of ants dragging away an entire baby bird carcass and find the experience odd and strangely heart warming. But if I'm building a house and not working on some archaeological dig or studying entomology, surprising ant behviour gets filed under "weird and vaguely amusing." Likewise with odd contradictions. Sometimes they register on my radar as jokes, sometimes not.

Pull out a DiD or psychopathy dx and some prison stories and prove that you're the person who did or witnessed those things and I'll use every tool my university gave me to try to figure you out. The rest is all play and shitposting for me.

I have to go. We'll chat more later if you'd like.

Because they know better, or because they don't?

That's a matter of interpretation.

I haven't been terribly open. But that's because I don't think people would actually believe it. It's quite outlandish.

Who cares if we believe it? A good yarn's a good yarn.

I care if you believe it, when it's the truth.

Have you ever been uncharacteristically honest, and had it met with disdain/disbelief/dismissal?

Particularly when it's an extraordinarily exposing honesty?

I don't care about much. But I care about that.

Why does that matter when the weight attached here is so light, when there is such little collateral? Distrust is normal here, and those not already resigned to yay or nay will scrutinize it and decide from what they're reading.

It matters only this much to people who've made a life out of lying. Someone used to telling the truth won't care as much when they aren't believed, they know it's the truth and from that need nothing else, while those used to lying will fall into Cassandra Complex woes, Boy Who Cried Wolf follies, from having less of a tollerance against it.

Get used to the scorn of their doubts, show that you don't need them to believe it from already knowing better, and you will appear more truthful, just as much as you would when spouting lies and not caring if they're believed. Lies are easy, as they are only scrutinizing your story, but the truth is hard from it exposing yourself. Lies are protective clothing while the truth is naked. A lie, while flimsier, is made to protect vulnerabilities they are not ready to expose.

I don't care, and from it people believe me. My being seen as truthful adds to deadpan snark at times as well.

Using the truth with the right timing, words, appearances, has proven itself to be stronger than lies. There's nothing to unravel and the sway from it shows more longevity. There's also less strain when there's no paper trail to fret over.

Truth can be the greatest lie. While truths can contradict, the fact that you yourself believe it is powerful.

Not everyone has a choice in that.

My concern isn't being doubted. In this medium (referring also to 4D), I've been nothing but doubted. That's never troubled me, because I've tested the waters with similarly outlandish stories (and enjoyed telling them). And, unsurprisingly, been met with doubt (at best). But funnily enough, my lies have always been less outrageous than the truth. When I first described being a child sex slave for a Moroccan gang, I did so because the truth is probably (depending, of course, on your opinion) stranger than that.

And so my reluctance to be forthright isn't out of fear of being doubted, it's in the knowledge that I will be. So what's the point?

I could tell the truth, but to what end? Further doubt? I'll know the truth, of course. But I'll know the truth whether I tell you or not. I've already exposed a fair few truths and been met with doubt. At this point, it's a game of football without a goalpost.

Lies are protective clothing while the truth is naked.

No, not quite. My lies are litmus tests. The truth is naked, yes. But lying doesn't have to be protective. It could be a gingerly probing risk.

I honestly thought this was you before I read the name at the top of the post, Sys. You and Ed are quickly becoming SC's next Voldemort and Harry Potter.

Didn't Ed say Syst is like a son to him, and agree that people like himself would lead to clashes?

Yes he did say that about the clashes.

I don't remember the part about Sys being like a son, tho.

Sys is more like Voldemort imo  :P
