Hi. I don't really respect quite a few of these laws, but I do believe they were written by a sociopath that believed in what he was saying.

From “48 Laws of Power”: File Under Self-Development

“Lesson [1]

·         Present your ideas in a way that they echo your boss’s thought

·         Act less smarter [sic] than your boss

·         Do not take your position in work or in life for granted

·         Always make sure to make it seem like you want to seek the superior’s expertise and advice.

·         Discreet flattery is very powerful. “

Someone on here suggested reading “48 Laws of Power”.

        Some quick thoughts:

With the exception of the last point about flattery, to personalize, I think I have trouble with all of this. But I have really not held any positions where it is necessary to climb the corporate ladder. I can think of at least one, and I was really protective of my work and ideas.

My father is an interesting case. This is relevant. He once showed me a landmark intellectual property suit

brought by a 90’s alternative band on a bandmate. (I didn’t care for the band’s music, but that’s besides the point.) Apparently the bandmates were jamming and there was no real a priori contract with regard to ownership. (I can’t find the case – I will if I have time.)

Clearly I’m not an IP attorney. But I respect ownership of ideas, especially where money is concerned.

Because after all it’s always all about the money, isn’t it?

I am aware that if I work for a corporation, the corporation basically owns me, right? And I’m getting the impression that the market for entrepreneurs is saturated and entrepreneurs are not well respected. Misguided? I mean, anybody can be an entrepreneur, right?

So, I refuse to see this as a character flaw in myself, in that I can probably change my behavior. But maybe not my temperament. Grrrr, it just really gnaws at me and I don’t know why. The point is not to probe why but to make it work for me.

This way of thinking  (oh, you fucking sycophant) is NOT new to me, but I have yet to put it into action.

Thoughts, ya’ll ? How do you react to this Lesson. The history on the site is also added bonus if you are so inclined – hx is not my strong suit. I suspect there might be 47 more of these lessons LOL and I will post more analysis if there is significant interest and I have time.

       Make interested.
