In an attempt to mitigate too much interruption from the Story's flow I will answer all questions in this thread. It does not matter to me where anyone feels comfortable asking the questions, the answers will be here. And Ed you have the first of questions...
Why aren't there more replies to this thread? I think it's awesome that you're talking about this. It sucks that your wife cracked under pressure, but I bet it wasn't easy for her either, having to face the possibility of you dying and being left with the kids and stuff. It takes a certain special strength to cope with that, so it's hard to choose the right woman for it.
Also, why didn't you ask more details about what happened between your wife and your father? Seems like a bit of a big deal to just wave off. Whatever it was, your father's attitude seems rash and unfair. Did you and your dad have a bad relationship before all that happened?
Choosing the right woman; this theme will be repeated I'm sure. Essentially it turned into a huge "he said/she said" bunch of bullshit. The wife swore she heard my father's missus PROMISE to do something. The missus said it was a thought and nothing more, Things went south from there. My wife threatened my father that she would destroy the relationship he had with me, She says she didn't say anything like that... bull shit. Harsh things said that can never be taken back and a sack full of stubborn narcs who are never wrong. No winning that game.
My father and I were best friends. It was rough growing up under his rule... abusive at times, emotionally and physically; but he and I both changed a lot during my teenage and into my early adult years. I also think my joining the Marine Corps brought us closer together... it was something he wanted to do but was too afraid. I enjoyed being around him. I enjoyed his respect.
